Who do you think will see more improvement. Some lowcappers being able to drive greens, or hackers having less fat or thin shots to get it into the hole?  Im pretty interested to see how this plays out. I sure hope it helps out as erik hoped. I havent broke 80 but have shot 81 a few times. I hope it helps put me there.

I read a book once, 'Breaking 80', that you might be interested in picking up. It isn't full of swing tips or technique talk, but rather it focuses on simplifying one's thought process during a round and getting (and staying) in the mindset that helps break through barriers like breaking 80. It was written by a former tennis player who took up golf and wanted to improve without playing or practicing a lot. He ultimately decided that breaking 80 was the mark of a reasonably decent golfer, so that became his goal. I think he did it it less than a year. He was also a former tennis instructor and tried to port some of his tennisinstruction techniques to his own golf game. Right before I hit my approach on 18 the day I broke 80 for the first time on a par 72 course, I thought about what he'd written. It sure helped me put a good swing on the ball that day. Best of luck.

Seems like a cool idea.  I will have to play my two rounds tomorrow but I will wait to post my results once the thread is created.
I think the biggest advantage in playing the most forward tees is the par 3's.  My course has 3 of the 4 par 3's playing around 200 yards.  I don't think that playing conservative will help me to much because the worst part of my game is putting.  Being aggressive will help because I will be on the green with two putts to have a birdie.

Tough course, but a lot of fun to play if like a challenge. You're lucky to be so close to it!

It is a lot of fun to play especially with travelers who have never seen it before.

I'm very interested in this experiment because I wouldn't think of playing the "cultivator" tees at the Road, but I'm thinking that eliminating the forced carries on 1, 2, 10, 13, 15, & 18 will probably be worth 2 or 3 strokes. The par 5s are going to be reachable in 2 without the risk of being down in some hellacious bunker/waste area. The par 3s are already short except #8 and it's going to be a lot easier. I figure 10 strokes better from the forward tees whether I play aggressively or conservatively.

I honestly think I'd burn up the course from the red (ladies) tees at my course and have always thought this, would be an interesting experiment but my club is quite snotty and could imagine them being disgruntled if a young chap like myself was to be bombing off the ladies tees all day. Also as an aside in the UK we don't use this rating/slope for courses or at least I couldn't find it for my course online, can anyone shed any light on this?

Guesstimate it if you can, please. Try it. I hope you enter the experiment.

I would love to get involved, no doubt my youthful exuberance/confidence would be caught out and I would shoot somewhere around what I usually do from the back tees but unfortunately I move away for a job next week and therefore my time on the course is limited.

I haven`t finalized which of two possible courses I will play, but the yardage diff will either be 5842 vs 5582 or 5359 vs 4762.

Are we suppose to use the ladies rating/slope or an estimate of what the men`s rating/slope would be?  Looks like 5097 is the women`s tees and likely their rating/slope as it is only 1.6 strokes less with a 1400+ yard drop in distance??  Can`t see the rating/slope on the online card, so maybe I have it wrong.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
