I have got a painful muscular injury in the ribs at absolutely the wrong time of my golf learning. The pain seems to travel to the back if I treat the front and viceversa. I had this 'bug' last winter too but it went away mysteriously after a while. Anyone experienced this before and got suggestions. Also what do you do to avoid injuries?
I seem pretty prone to them. I do stretch and warm up before I play always.

Treat both? I'm not really sure. I had a piece of cartilage removed from my left chest when I was 7 or 8, and it occasionally bugs me today, but nothing serious. All my other golf injuries are short-term things.

Somehow managing to stab myself with a golf pencil hard enough to bleed freely for the next 30 minutes or so when I stamped on the golf cart's brakes, as well as tweaking both wrists pretty badly in some waist-high cabbage. A few twisted ankles from stepping in bad places, but that's about it.

Last summer I was playing in a tournament and I was playing at an unbelievable -2 through through 6 at a course that I have shot -4 at. After chipping in for yet another birdie, I was on the next tee, striped a driver and felt a rip in my back. I tried to hit another shot but the pain was terrible.

One month with no golf killed my game...

(So I guess you'd agree with me when I say they should really start putting yardage markers in the rough?)

I would go get it checked out. I know how much fun doctors are, but the alternative is worse.

In the mean time, I wouldn't play much. I had a left ankle injury two years ago that I tried to play on. It caused me to stop transferring weight like I should. Good luck!

I broke my arm/wrist in March of this year snowboarding, so Im in the process of recovering from that still. I've have about 20 rounds under my belt so far this season, but I still get sore after each one. I ice it when I get home then put a heating pad on it to ease things up a bit then do some stretching of the wrist and Im good to go for the next day. Important thing is...dont ignore the pain. You may be able to play through it, but you have to think of the lasting effects. You might have to ease up now or take a day off or two, but you'll thank yourself down the road when you're ripping up the course as a 60+ year old, healthy golfer. Good luck with the injury!

I threw my left shoulder out this year while hitting my PW of the tee on a par 3. I'm not sure what actually happened but it just sort of popped then my mind aborted the swing and then hit ground pretty hard which probably didn't make anything better.

Basically I just had to slow my swing way down and work my way around the injury and I was completely better within 2 or 3 weeks.

I think people just don't warm up properly before golf games. If you look at sports like golf and soccer you are expected to warm up for at LEAST 30-60 min before playing.

Now golf may not require that long but a good stretching/warm-up routine expecially for the shoulders/back/core areas should help to prevent many common golf injuries.

There's a new book out called Golf RX; got it for my birthday.
Good advice on golf related fitness, 15 minute a day routines for fitness, warm up and cool down stretches, and advice for coming back after injuries. It is pretty good stuff. If you want to start a fitness routine or have been injured, you should check it out.

it may be a trigger point in your back. some of them refer pain to your abdominals. find the best deep tissue massage therapist in town that is very good at trigger point therapy, dont bother with spa therapists. call country clubs in town to see if they have massage therapists on staff. my massage teacher has worked at our local country club for 15 years and is awesome with golf injuries, maybe your club has one.

I took a two week break and am good to go now. With all the rain in Oklahoma, I did not miss much I think.

Yea taking a break is the best thing to do. Lately my back has occasionally been hurting after I swing, and I am certain its my swing, I just got to tweak my swing a little on the range and hopefully it'll be better.

I love to hate this damn game.

Right now I have a cyst on my back that is around my spine. I had one removed about 4 years ago and it was benign, I think this is putting pressure on some nerves and causing my hands to go numb at night. Going to the doctor this week.

Okay guys, top this.
After our second shot to par 4 #18, I’m down one to guy I had never beaten.
He’s 2 in the lake! My ball is on the kudzu (If you live in the south you know what that is) on the rocks next to the same lake. If I can just get it on the green somewhere near a 2 putt I have at least a tie(never before).
My lie is not good. The slightest touch will send my ball down 3 feet into some real cabbage. Standing on two rocks, I made a very careful lob shot that landed 6 ft short and rolled to 3 inches. Damn! Excitedly I took a step towards the green and missed the intended rock and fell forward. I put my hands down but unfortunately they went on opposite sides of a very large rock hidden beneath the kudzu. My sternum broke my fall on the very large rock. Writhing in pain I watched my friend hit 3 over the green into a bunker. His next shot went back into the lake. I could have taken an unplayable and still won. Well, the par was worth some of the pain.
I shot an 84, my best ever on that course at that time. My present best on that course (mail@graysburghillsgolf.com)Chuckey, Tn ,a four star course, par 72) is 74 (35/ 39). I was 3 under twice that round, but!!!
BTW I was out for 3 weeks because of this.
