Forward shaft lean casuing slice/push?

I have a question for you guys that has kind of been bothering me for a while. So I know of course to hit down on the ball and have forward shaft lean to do this. now when I set up (static) to see what my impact would feel like I notice that when I lean the shaft forward that the club automatically opens up unless I manipulate my hands a little to bring it back. So (just guessing and I know other things may result in slice/push) im guessing that when I hit down on the ball and have forward shaft lean it is causing my open clubface. (Im also guessing thats why when I try to draw the ball I get more hook because I have to rotate club more)

So does anyone else notice this? am I the only one? is there a fix? am I just looking at this all wrong?

By Static, do you mean just pressing the clubhead down where it would impact while leaning the handle forward?  If this is what you are doing, then you are completely eliminating the action of the shaft altogether.  Your theory would only work if the shaft were a solid mass that did not twist, flex, bend, etc...

The club face should be slightly open coming from the inside, but forward shaft lean is probably not what is causing your problem.  You are either coming more over the top than you think or your body is rotating through too fast or something else.  Not sure but, it is probably not shaft lean.  Probably nobody here is going to be able to help you too much here.  You could try and post a swing video.

Actually, I have noticed this. Yes, if you lean the shaft forward, the face will open unless you manipulate the hands. The key here is that you are doing it STATICALLY. During a downswing, however, the face is rotating shut as you pronate your right forearm, and that angular momentum shuts the face.

I actually found out the reason was not my hands or anything but that my body was rotating to much during my golf swing causing it to be open, I slowed that down so shoulder were clsoer to paralel and fixed it, thanks everyone

Would it make sense to think that the forward lean from setup is different because the swing is a circular motion with the hands as well? Since the hands are forward of the clubhead, they are traveling more around, left, and therefore closing the face but also putting the toe of the club towards the player. At address, simply leaning the shaft forward does open the face, but that's not the position the handle would actually be in during a swing, no?

In response to the bold, it doesn't have to. I can put the handle well forward and not change the left/right orientation of the face one bit.

If your swing path is closed relative to the face of the club, you're okay.

Check out his thread.  Clubs are designed to have the handle/hosel forward at impact, shaft lean is a good thing.  The idea of a "square" clubface at impact is bogus
