Anyone buying these who is gullible enough to think they're buying blades probably won't care what the polymer insert does over time because they'll be getting suckered into something else long before it's an issue. Anytime I see a commercial with  "Dustin Johnson demonstrating the new . . . " I change the channel.

Hit the 6 iron today and took some video.  On good shots I wouldn't say that I hit it that much farther but definitely longer on mis hits.  Sound is slightly hollow which is just the construction of the head.  Has more of a "thwack" sound, almost like some hybrids.  Very easy to hit high but the ball doesn't balloon even with the stock 85 gram shaft.  I like the look at address, easy to line up, large head but not chunky, very similar to the Tour Burner from a few years back.  Distance control was great, for me my pattern was consistent even out of different lies.  Must say, it was a lot of fun to it

The Reflex’s vertical CG was relatively high, about 20 mm above the ground, and the set didn’t employ progressive head design in terms of topline, sole width and MOI.

I remember these! If I'm not mistaken, they were determined to be "illegal" by the USGA due to the "trampoline effect". I think they filled the hollow slot behind the clubface with some sort of plastic later on, but the Reflex didn't sell well enough to survive.

So what TaylorMade is saying is that - the Reflex design was ahead of its time? Because while TaylorMade lowered the CG - the COR only improved by 20pts from .800 to .820.  LOL

I'd say the advance over the Wilson irons is timing, tuning the sound, and providing a more user friendly leading edge. Take any irons from the 1970s or 1980s, grind down the leading edge, put on fresh grips, and they'd be completely playable. With the smaller head sizes they'd all be players irons though.

Doing a little fun research, it looks like the patent on this was first granted in 1983 and assigned to Pepsico, who at the time was the owner of Wilson Sporting Goods.      Patent #4,398,965 claimed an iron with a " front striking face and slot space rearwardly from the striking face " and that this would " store energy when striking....and transfer energy to the ball as the ball leaves the striking surface ".      This appears to be a follow on from their work patented in 1976 using a flexing slot on the insert in their wood clubs.

Since the original Pepsico patent on the iron slot was granted in mid-1983, they would have received 17 years of protection on that concept and their patent would have expired in summer 2000.

Subsequently, a number of other patents with various manufacturers have played off this theme as well.     Nike has patents for a "bridge slot"; Callaway has some patent activity for the slot concepts, and Taylormade has some patents going back to 2001 on similar concepts.

The Wilson patent, however, wasn't the first in this field.    A 1976 patent with Shamrock Golf Company had a similar concept with the slot extending almost through the club, and even before that there was a patent granted in 1962 with a slot going through the club.

For as much as I seem to bag on TMaG, I do like these.  But it's going to be many years before I shell out that kind of cash on a set of irons.

Kids were born in the USA, only Canadian is the wife.  My "tourette's" is from from having 27 swing thoughts, down from 35

I hit the 7 iron at Golf Galaxy last night.

Didn't get any more distance than my JPX 800 Pro, was consistently going 150-155 for me.

In the Puma Orange Formation Stand Bag:

Driver: TaylorMade RBZ (10.25)

Fairway Woods: Callaway Diablo Octane (3,5,7,9)

Irons: Mizuno JPX 800 Pro (6-PW)

      For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...

      Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!

      Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?

      Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity.       Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
