Thanks for taking care of this again... Maybe we'll hear from the others who haven't chimed back in and they can still get in on this.

If they do, do they just call the course to pay?

Yeah I'd say call the course and ask them. Don't Paypal me at this point... "Invade". Lol gotta love cell phone spell check!

Hopefully we get two more so we can have 3 four man teams?  I like the idea of ABCD players split between 3 teams.  With just two fivesomes it seems like it might be a problem in terms of making fair teams?  I don't know all 10 handicaps, but from what I can gather it looks like we'll have 3 sub-5 HCs, a bunch of mid-cappers, and a couple high cappers?  Seems like whichever team got two low-cappers in a two team format would a prohibitive favorite unless we went to the trouble of team handicap scoring, which seems like a pain in the ass for an unofficial just for fun event like this.

If we do a best 2-ball format, I'll put in a word for everyone finishing every hole so we can figure a bragging rights best gross and maybe net winners.

I checked out their site. Quickly.

I noticed this, which belongs in the "bad grammar and spelling and crap" thread we have:

Mile Square Golf Course has been one of Orange Counties premier public golf courses since the first course opened in 1969.

Really? Orange Counties?

@Lihu - Your check showed up today.  thanks*

@beachcomber - We are gonna need HC for Andrew and Mike

I am fine with whatever game/pairings we come up with.

We have 3 tee times, so we can break it up however we want. 5 - 5 , 3-3-4 or something else if we get another player or two.

Andrew doesn't have an official SCGA handicap that I'm aware of... But in our men's league which has a formal handicap system he is a 4.5.... Not sure what Mike's HC would be?  He doesn't keep track of it - but he is typically in the mid 80's.  So I'd guess a 10 or 12?

It would be ideal if we could get two more guys so we could have 3 full foursomes.  I'll check with some other golfing buds and see what they are up to.

So are we playing from the blue tees???

Also they have some chicken wire fencing around the water on the course, i think for the coots.  Just want to know what the rule on this is.  Free drop from temp obstruction???

saved me from the water last week haha. Also my handicap is not official. I used greenskeeper.org for a while keeping it and havent kept up with it in months but I still shoot around the 14 handicap mark (I think I shot 86 at mile square last month but I also shot 92 a few weeks ago) so take that for what its worth with my handicap.

1.) Blue tee's get my vote.  But I'm Ok with either... I think we should let the high handicappers chime in.  From my vantage point, the course isn't that long - and both the White and Blues aren't much of a difference from what I remember.

2.) Not sure how the fencing would be played.  I believe it is an obstruction and you get free relief?  But given it is in a water hazard, that may not be the case??

You don't get relief from things in water hazards, no.

forecast says possible rain on sunday...

that could make things interesting!

Only a few days away!

Groups?  I think we should just split it up by HC.  like HC 1,3,5,7,9 vs 2,4,6,8,10 or something else if its 3 teams....

I assume we're playing net, so I guess it ultimately doesn't matter, but I think if you wanted it to be "even," the best should play with the worst.  1,3,5,7,9 have a slight advantage over the others since 1 is better than 2, 3 is better than 4, etc.  Maybe more like 1,3,6,8,10 vs. 2,4,5,7,9?

Again, probably moot because we're presumably playing net, but just throwing it out there. :)

I'll play with any of the guys.  I have two buddies joining me... But they are big boys and can play/hang with any of us on here.

    • If you like golf podcasts, Hack It Out is tough to beat. Lots of interesting info and it's very funny.  Lou is one of the hosts along with Greg Chalmers and Mark Crossfield.  They love to give each other a hard time.  Lou catches most of it, but he takes it well and dishes out his fair share.  Great show.

    • Day 9: 2/15/2025 Spent several 5-10 minutes sessions today working on what I learned from Yoda yesterday. Pretty much a new priority piece.
    • Day 25 (15 Feb 25) - A little background on today’s drill session.  On the way to band rehearsal this morning I was listening to the guys on PGA Tour radio in the golf school segment and they got to talking about short game practice.  As I love working that part of the game, my ears perked up.  They were talking taking multiple clubs and doing pitches/chips from the same distance and learning how each flies the ball.  So today was the start of the 8P54 drill (8i - Pw - 54°).   Set it up to hit two balls with each club from the same lie to a set distance.  It really helps envision what I should see in each club.  A sweet new twist to a fave drill.
