I see your point, but after playing with the majority of these guys in December, their listed handicaps are pretty accurate.

Yeah, if it was a serious competition, then, of course, that would be silly.  But it's just for fun, and like Tristan said, most of us have met and played together and can verify that these numbers are legit.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how to calculate how many strokes Beachcomber and Pakoh get for their "bad" and "..." handicaps. :)

P.S.  Looking forward to seeing you at our next one!

Not me, sorry.  I've only played out in that general area once (with Shawn at Goose Creek Golf Club)

I just know that that area is not more than a 60 minute drive for me, and shouldn't be much more than that for Tristan either ... if he can make it. :)

I hope so!  Don't know if I mentioned it before; I'll be transferred this summer to the exercise control group (called Ops Group) at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin (40 miles north of Barstow).  That's why I said before that I'm "sort of" moving to SoCal.  The reality is that there isn't an 18 hole golf course within about 100 miles of that place, so whatever golf I do play will be between Big Bear, San Diego, and LA (all within a 3 hour drive according to Google Maps, and I have a fast car ).

I have no idea how much time I'll actually have.  The entire schedule is built around a 26-day training rotation each month, 10 months per year.  That means that on a normal month I'll get 4 days off--in a row--each month.  The problem is that with sequestration, they've already "announced" (the CSA said so, but it's not on the calendar yet) that all but one of the training rotations are cancelled for the rest of the year.  I could have a whooooole lot of time on my hands.

We'll see...

I don't think we're going to worry about the "even-ness" of the groups. People are never happy with that.

Talked with my manager at work today and the extra day off is no problem so I will definitely be there on Friday.

Ok so we are on for the 5SK school at the Van Buren Golf Center.  What time works for those attending?  Mid morning, noon?

3pm would give us enough daylight and we could go eat afterwards?

Either that or 8am or 9am or so, I'd think. Noon in San Diego doesn't sound wise, but I don't live there so...

8am Sunday April 7th.  Still waiting for confirmation from my contact regarding AimPoint, will probably hear from him tomorrow.  Looking forward to it.

That sounds good... the suggestion for later in the day also works... Whatever works best for everybody else will be fine with me.

I'm good anytime but if I had to pick my preference I think I'd go with mid morning. We'd miss morning traffic and be home in time for dinner. :). But like I said, anytime will work, whatever works for all.

Early or late work for me. I'd just prefer not to kill a whole day working around a mid-day thing. Mike and I need time to go pick up chicks. :)

    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
    • Yeah, I think I misread that part. I read "in front of" and kinda skipped the rest.
    • We just completed our winter league (Jan 1 - April 30)  Our scoring was simple.  We used the 18 birdies app.  You get 1 point for every member of the league you beat head to head in an 18 hole round (no handicap).  You also get a point for completing the round.  Therefore 4 members play a round- winner of the round gets 4 points, runner-up gets 3, third gets 2, and last gets 1.  Points accumulate throughout the season.  You can play as many times as you want. Our winner accumulated 110 points while second was 102 and third was 97.  We had a total of 16 members in the league.  No issues whatsoever.  All about fun.
