A putter with front wheel drive?  If it makes driving cars in rain and snow safer, it has to be better for putting right?

What's with this thing?  I see it on TGC all the time.  What the hell is overspin?  Is it just top spin? Don't all putters use top spin?  I can't imagine the ball would go very far with backspin or very straight with sidespin.

I see this commercial all the time and wonder the same exact thing. Is it even possible to put backspin in the ball when putting?

And if you pay attention to the ball on the last putt they show, you can see how fake the ball is.

What do I call my overspin putter?

Money!!!!! (say in a totally douchebaggy voice).

Not sure what's more annoying. That line or the, "101, boys. Read it and weep" line in the Medicus power meter commercial.

Someone let Jack Hamm take a crack with a nerf bat at both those actors' skulls sometime.

But isn't Chuck Evans the guy on the Overspin putter?  He's on the 5SK videos with Dave!

Does seem awfully ridiculous that putting a little angle on the bottom of the club (a part you don't hit the ball with!) would do anything in regards to spin ... but I'm sure some people buy it.

There's an old putting drill where you put two quarters down behind your ball and you try to stroke putts without disturbing the quarters. The idea is to not strike the ball too low or "below the equator." Who knows if that's a good drill or not. But someone probably saw that drill and thought it would be a good idea to ground down the bottom of a putter so you never hit the ball too low. This is of course, a theory of mine, over how the putter came to be.

But anyone who buys a putter without trying it first is likely going to walk away with buyer's remorse.

And re: Chuck Evans... yea... who knows.... We all gotta eat, right?

The idea is that it forces the putter to strike the ball above the equater, allegedly causing top spin and less skipping and bouncing. Not a new concept. Seems to me that the tear drop putter showed up 20+ years ago. Used a rolled face to accomplish the same thing......

When I saw it, it reminded me of the Tour Striker. If you flip or release your hands too early, you'll strike the ball with "the little angle on the bottom". What I visualize the concept being, is that it would reinforce the notion of having some forward shaft lean at impact, not necessarily that the design will physically make a difference upon ball-strike.

I call my putter money (complete with Douchbaggy voice) and then at the end of the round I throw my scorecard on the bar and say, "101, boys. Read it and weep!"

I laugh every time I see the commericial.  Not sure what the best part is: "front wheel drive", "money" or the big fat guy doing the fist pump and then pointing to the putter.

Definitely the front wheel drive!  What can that possibly mean?

The best part of the commercial is the completely amateur 'CGI' of the ball going in the hole at the end of the commercial.

I don't even get it - why would they bother to edit so the ball goes in the hole, rather than just film a ball going in the hole?

I was waiting for the, "Call now and get a 2nd Overspin putter free".  Not a good commercial, on the same level as The Hammer, BOOM! POW!

I'm almost embarrassed to post this, but I bag an overspin (won it at an outing) and it sets up great for me. And no  I don't call it money but  had a streak of 9 tournament rounds without a three put last season.

I do agree that is one cheesy commercial.

Well, I'm glad someone who actually owns one of these things responded to the thread.

That's the funny thing about putters. One might be perfect for a handful of people. But that same putter is probably horrendous for most others. That's why I think the putter is the most important club in the bag to be fit for.

Do you think you putt well with it because the putter just fits your eye, or do you think there's something to the "overspin" part? Are you able to explain how the front wheel drive operates?

    • Day 86 (26 Jul 25) - Down at the beach place, had kept the clubs with me after playing yesterday.  Spent time this afternoon checking them over and brushing grooves on the wedges and irons.  Spent a few minutes working thru the swing process…working in slo mo through backswing and proper weight shift.
    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
    • Day 299 - 2025-07-26 I spent 15 minutes practicing but it was almost pointless. It wasn't good practice. I was not really in it, but I put the time in. Oh, I did some chipping work before-hand, and that was good. I could have just left after that. 🙂
