Ok... There are a few - and that is very few CB/FS/SS in this years draft prospects that are 6'4".  I just ran through the list and found one or two guys.  As newtogolf stated, it is rare to have a guy that height - who has the mass on his body - and speed to play the position... And would be considered a freak of nature to play Safety at that size.

Yeah, DE too - if he had speed (and added another 30lbs of muscle onto his frame).  Maybe OLB - who is a tweener and can play down or up.

Yes, but I doubt they aren't safeties BECAUSE they are 6'-4".  They aren't safeties because they're big muscular 6-4 types and are not fast enough, or they're fast, lanky WR types who aren't strong enough to be a safety.  But nothing about being 6-4 is, in and of itself, disadvanageous to being a safety.

You could have said "A 230 lb safety?  Ummm, no."

or

"A british safety?  Ummm, no."

I think Belichick and Kelly would have said a different position if another was more applicable. They know a bit about football. I'd say if he worked out a bit more he could probably even play tight end, but that's just me.

Also a 4.4 40 belongs to a genetic freak no matter the position. Maybe if he was a #1 overall pick in the draft he'd need to run under a 4.4, but 4.4 will put anyone in the elite of any position. Ed Reed ran 4.45 and he's pretty good. Antrell Rolle ran a 4.5, he's one of the better safeties. I'd say less than half of starters in the NFL at the safety position would run under 4.45s.

230lb safety would be more realistic than a 6'4" safety.  Although neither would be pedigree... The problem is once you start getting to that size - you start slowing down to play the position.  Unless of course, you are using Deer Antler spray.

And how many are 6'4" tall?  And combine the weight of 230lbs?

I don't think we are saying he isn't an athletic man...What I'm saying is his physique doesn't match that of a safety.

Well yes, I suppose that's obvious. He's clearly better suited to being a shooting guard or something in the NBA. :P

He also fits the mold for a defenseman in hockey, just with too many teeth.

Second, that's what Belichick & Kelly said. I would guess they know what they're talking about.

Shawn, you really should just stop. :P

Back on topic now please. For the record, I don't particularly care one way or the other for or about Nick Faldo. Great golfer in his time, of course.

Pat Watkins was the tallest safety in the NFL at 6'5".  So he was a bit taller than Sir Nick.  He also didn't last very long.

So we have those who definitely used them, those who "probably" used them, and the athletes who never accomplished anything and no one cares about? Seems like all of professional sports aren't worth watching with that attitude.

And also a whole can of worms and another thread.

I think he influenced guys like Johnny Miller in that it's okay to be critical of a pro's decision. Venturi called it like he saw it but with class. Miller just isn't as smooth as Venturi was.

I think a little bit of Feherty and McCord are good but sometimes they need to muzzle them.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
