Sure. I get it. However, what’s the point of having a forum then?

I won't speak for @Phil McGleno, but… specific to this (Member Swing topics):

  • To let people who are working with an instructor document what they're doing so they have a place to keep a record, can perhaps help someone else going through a similar thing, or to get another way to interact with their instructor or instructor(s).
  • For people who aren't working with an instructor to get help.

Bluntly, if you want to help @ncates00 (and everyone appreciates it), maybe help the people who aren't actively getting help from known good instructors?

In some other threads there were some mechanics, like hinging the club up more because the person is so flat. That said, the person posting on a forum has the right to post like I do to respond. They can reject it or accept it.

Many people will be afraid to say anything for fear of coming across as rude, yet they also don't want to see you wasting your time by typing up things trying to help.

Like your own advice, reject it, ignore it, whatever.

I feel like I am very close to a semi-repeatable swing, so I plan to continue my Evolvr work through the winter.  We've made some great progress that is allowing me to hit the long clubs much, much better. I had been losing 6.5 shots a round to a scratch golfer in my ability to get off the tee and approach the green and haven't played much really since 2017. I don't have any disillusions about getting to scratch at this point in my life but a sub 5 golfer should be very attainable in the future.

I got a new net and mat so I can do some testing with the Mevo this off-season. I want to have a much more accurate understanding of my carry distances. I will hopefully do some work with the driver as well. I will also be able to continue some Evolvr lessons into the spring, and then just do monthly checks throughout the summer with my instructor to make sure I am not regressing with any of the priorities.

Second part of the Mevo work is to figure out which 3 of these clubs will make the bag. I plan to also keep a standard 4 iron and will get some numbers on that. I only have 2 wedges after my PW so I have room for three clubs. I’d rather have the versatility up at the top end of the clubs anyway. I’ll try to get some numbers and post them here to make the decision on which 3 clubs I will be keeping in the bag. Lofts are 20, 19, 18 and 15.5.

I resolved my pitching/chipping struggles. I have had a lot of low point issues and flinching with this, going all the way back to 2017 when I took the game back up again. Spent about and hour hitting chips off the fringe at a course nearby. Felt like I was only rolling the club inside instead of taking it up. Cleaned up my contact sooooooo much more. I'm still losing more shots to the full swing but this should clean up some smaller issues. In my last regular full round I shot an 82 and had 3 three putts and 3 shots lost to chucked or bladed pitches. Only one of the three putts was really due to a bad iron shot, but of course, all of the pitches were. An improved pitching motion will help me make more pars on those nGIR shots as well. So the priority continues to be the full swing, but I can't hit every green so cleaning the pitching up and also figuring out my putting motion(I had reverted back to some old habits on it) should help save me 3-6 strokes a round as well.

Had some fun with the Mevo testing different loft settings and tee heights at the range. It was chilly and windy so I am not sure how much that affects things. I will post my findings on the long club decisions maybe later tonight or tomorrow as well.

That's some CH speed.. nice! I've been grunting to get it past 92 mph.. ha.

Haha, I'd love to get my ball speed into the 160 mph range consistently with a "normal' swing.  I am curios how the CH speed and ball speed will be next season when it is warmer and after swinging and working on some things over the winter.

Very happy with the progress i have made overall on Evolvr this fall.  I was able to find some of the missing mechanical pieces that have been eluding me for many years.  I'll continue to work on them over the winter and next season should be a lot of fun.

As for the long iron decisions.

The Cleveland Launcher HB 4i(20 degrees, I consider it a 3 iron alternative basically). This thing is just so easy to hit and fits nicely with my 4iron which was between 190-195 carry on this particular day.  The miss is an occasional toe miss left.  It is just so consistent overall. A fellow golfer and I have long called this type of club an NFG club, as in, I'm No F🤬ing Good club. Ugly but effective. It reminds me of my old G15 hybrids. I loved those and I love this, it's probably here to stay.

4H.jpg

Ben Hogan 3 iron utility with stiff steel shaft. I just don't think I have the speed or the ability to hit this club consistently but when you do...its a laser beam. Fun but I'm NFG for this club probably at this time. Carry distances are too inconsistent and I tend to leave the face open and miss with the ball spinning out to the right. It's probably out but I'll keep practicing with it.. I might try a graphite shaft in it to see if that goes any better. I can't really see how it would be an improvement over the Cleveland however.

3U.jpg

Ping G410 3 hybrid(de-lofted to 18 degrees). The more I swing this club the more I am loving it. Right now it is my go to max distance second shot club that I am most comfortable with. It isn't too far behind my 3w for carry as well.

3H.jpg

Ping G 3 Wood +1 for loft so 3.5 or 4 wood basically. I've kept it in the bag for now, but rarely pull it out. I am committed to practicing with it and getting better.  But I've struggled with my attack angles on it this season.  My swing work should continue to help me clean up the contact though. I basically have to "feel" I am taking a half speed swing to hit it decently and not thin it or (cough)top it. You can see the speed difference in swings 2-4.

3W.jpg

One club is out for sure maybe 2(not sure I even really need the 3 wood), seems like the obvious choice to me for inconsistency issues and gap control is to cut the Hogan 3 utility iron. I'll do some more testing though and see where things end up.

Does your MEVO miss shots? Sometimes mine will not record a shot even when it says ‘Ready’. It’s frustrating.

It missed a few accidental low balls I noticed at the range yesterday. But it hasn't been missing too many decently launched shots, except for on one club. For some reason it doesn't like my G410 Hybrid.  It misses some decent ones with that.  It misses club head speed a decent amount with it, too stealthy I guess. 😂 One of the shots I threw out with that was over 230 carry but it didn't register CH speed and one other reading, so I considered it an abnormality. I've only used it twice now and have had decent luck with it so far overall. The first time was hitting into a net with the stickers on the balls. I'll let you know more once I have it indoors if I have any troubles.  I am really enjoying it and what I am learning from it so far.

It'll miss low balls particularly if it's on an elevated mat. I like to try to get the Mevo even with the mat or even slightly above it. (But not much.) Then adjust the setting properly for mat height.

I use the box cover to elevate it to mat level. For driver, should it be higher?

Haha, no Ticiddytoc for me.

Here are some normal swings in which I got the speed up a bit. Hit 160 BS on one, close on others.  I'll be working on this and getting my SF up with better contact this winter.

DriverNumbers110620.jpg

Here were 6 all out swings just to see what my top end was.  Horrible contact consistency, but there some speed on reserve there in the tank.

Well, that didn't take very long, all I had to do was buy a new Driver. Just picked up the G410. Speed has been improving week by week though. Nice to see every ball at 160+ even with some off center hits.

I've been taking some lessons for the past couple months.  My full swing iron and wedge game continue to improve as we have mainly been working on the driver. I am very happy with the irons as far as start lines and curve goes. I feel I am close to a decent golfer with that. The driver continues to be the main challenge for me as it always is. I've been able to put the ball in play for the most part and have a little bit of speed, but path/face and strike consistency has been a struggle. I've worked mainly on some setup, grip and takeaway pieces so far. Miss right now tends to be out of the bottom half of the club. I am getting closer with the takeaway so I will likely try and add a little bit of throw in the DS and see if I can find the center of the face a little more with a higher trajectory. Maybe one day I can even put a fairway wood back in the bag. 😂

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
