Can't change the past, focus on making solid contact on the next shot, if that's all you think about wont worry about slicing, hooking, pulling, whatever. pick a spot and hit it.

It's golf. Even the top in the world make mistakes. Make the best of your bad shot, whether it's just getting it back in play or gambling to make a well done recovery shot and keep on going.

Big deal, so I have a bit more of a challenge. Sure beats just about any indoor activity.

If you're in a tournament and this happens, tell yourself you're just that good: you can spot the rest of the field whatever advantage in strokes they have over you for that bad shot and you can still win. Golf is about making the most of your mistakes, not playing perfectly. Do yourself a big favor and go read Golf is Not a Game of Perfect by Dr. Bob Rotella. I got this about a week ago and it has helped me tremendously.

recover?

HA!

i dont recover too well.

itll take me at least 3 shots to forget about the bad shot.

i could hit about 10 great shots in a row, then i hit a bad one.

and its in my head for the rest of the hole.

Two answers if the big shot puts u deep in the wood or with no angle to the pin, take the shot out of the woods or the layup shot very seriously. Try to put the shot as close to a spot as u can. Often coming out trouble u have the length of a fairway or atleast the width. If you miss ur spot often, youll still be in good shape. If you hit your spot great, either way its a step in the right direction. Putting and the recover are separated good and great rounds regardless of your handicap.

One bad shot or one bad hole usually don't faze me. After a few bad holes, I tell myself I'm a better player than this, to be patient and the score will come.

recover?

I thought I was the only one that suffered this way. The only thing that can take me out of my game quicker than this is if I dont like my shot and someone tells me "Good Shot". At that point I'm ready to explode

Isnt there a technique that Woods uses where he gives himself a small distance to be annoyed with himself and after that he just thinks about the next shot and puts it behind him. Or am i making this up?

I try to forget about a single bad shot. I pull out my "go to" club - currently a 7 iron - and make my next shot, knowing that I almost never miss with that club. I expect to make a dozen bad shots per round, and I play accordingly - I fall back and play for par, bogey at worst when that happens. Unless I got a really lucky break, and it wasn't a bad miss... (Even when I play for birdie, I have an annoying tendency to three-jack for bogey.)

When I have four or five bad shots in a row, though, I tend to lose it. I've chucked clubs more than a few times, and kicked the golf cart, or slammed my fist down on something. After that, though, I usually recover on the next hole. My only problem is when I hold it in and brood on it - it will send my game into a tailspin, and then I won't break 100 that day. I'm better off letting it out.

Try keeping your composure during the club championship, after tweaking your wrist on the 11th hole and having your father in your foursome (who would obviously give me hell if I lost it on the course). Went out in 41, came back in..ugh, 56. Four triples and a quad, right in a row.

I had a bad weekend this past, and I finally got to go out and golf on sunday, right before tee time, I got a phone call that ended up being some bad news, it threw my whole game off bc I had to worry during the round to go deal with situation, I didn't want to make everyone else miserable, so I just tried to laugh it off and then bought a six pack for back 9

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
