My Swing (nevets88)

First swings of 2019. Better Key #1 (usually head goes forward then back, this is as still as I'll ever get, I think letting that forward heel go off the ground a tad helps), controlled length of backswing, changes are just starting to be unconscious, but hands so high still feels weird, still something that looks off post A7, can't put my finger on it, arms too across, not exploding towards target and going up. This was a 80% swing.

I love the sound the hits make in slow motion. Looking good Steve.

Had a lesson, teach put me on the radar. This is probably as good as I’ll hit a 7 iron. Probably can swing a little harder but who knows how out of kilter the sequence will get. I’m old, so this is fine. AoA is pretty high, -4 I think is average from Trackman PGA average. Pretty high too. Must have left the face open. Previous shot was very left, so over compensated.

Huh, just noticed it was set for 5 iron. I was definitely hitting a 7. Dunno how that effects the numbers if you tell FS 5 when you use 7.

Doing lesson pieces, finish backswing (a little Hideki Matsuyama), soft trail shoulder at 4.

Off topic. I read Haruki Murakami's books and ran into word spaghetti first wrote Shigeki Murakami, then Hideki Maruyama, then screw it, just go look up the name dang it, good thing director Hayao Miyazaki is different enough. Too many vowels!

Question: I noticed a slight difference in your wrist movement from A3 to A4 from the 1/5 video to the 1/21 video. Looks like in the 1/5 video the wrists stayed relatively square and the clubface was close to parallel with the lead arm.  In the 1/21 video, the wrists move from slightly palmer (just after A3) to square (A4).  Was this an intentional move (or side effect) with your lesson pieces or just a random deviation?

Good pickup, you have sharp eyes. My instructor says I'm one of his students who has a lot of variation in swings, and I'm not surprised he said it, I'm not afraid to change things up, it's actually not a good thing though, I'm not so sure I would want to have myself as a student. One of my previous lessons, probably many, awhile back, was not to have the wrist too cupped at 4, sometimes lose sight of this. Or sometimes the ball is going so right, bowing the lead wrist will definitely make it stop going right. Or sometimes too across the line at 4 and bowing the wrist will calm that down. Another thing was when I was doing the new complete the backswing piece, I was cupping the wrist too much, so I overcompensated. Also the feel of a closed face will encourage rotation I think.

tl;dr - it was totally intentional. Goal is to tone down the variations, get some kind of sameness going in all the swings.

Clubhead still coming in behind ball last 1-2 feet before impact. I think I’d like to see it go more directly to ball. That’s what it looks like with all the good players. This is something I keep in the back of my mind, still working on completing BS and soft trail shoulder.

Because limited time indoors, haven't really been switching up clubs much, first time with a long iron in awhile.

Lots of lag at A6!

Same thing. Finish turn, soft trail shoulder. More compress into the ground. Something Preston told me a while ago. Less EE than in swing above. Looks more rotated at 7.

The finish looks smoother too. I noticed this with my swing that when I work on the shoulder rotation through impact, the finish just becomes better, easier and more relaxed.

Yes, I tended to not finish swing, I guess there is some merit to phrase swing to a finish.

Teacher has been coming up once a month and this is the most in person instruction I’ve ever had through the winter. We keep cycling through similar things I noticed which is fine because I never feel like I’ve quite mastered really of the pieces he gave me, could always do better. Worked on Key #4, via some backswing adjustments and extension Key #1 head not going forward at 1. I’m fine with toe strikes, coming from shank land. I like how I’m much more comfortable with arm higher at 4. Clubhead farther from body, more speed. Face is open in face on vid, could add a touch more lead wrist flex at 4.

For some reason, indoors, tend to pull the ball, not paying attention to where it hits the net. More cognizant of that now. Think Key #1 is getting better, better at head not going down and forward at A1 and not going backward and down at A4. Laying shaft off from A2 more w/forearm than wrist, less handsy. Also better at keeping arms behind me a touch at A4, keep arms from going out too much. Preston's compress into the ball on downswing. Think this is how the swing will look from now on, have settled into its eventual look.

Still a little dumped under going to the ball, but backswing and transition better, think could be more rotated at impact, still a lot of pulls, but Key #1 better, less head forward at A1 and less head backward at A4. Higher hands feeling more comfortable.

First time with driver in awhile, a little rusty but much of changes over the winter are in there.

Latest lesson - more extension post impact, was too Havercamp. Also worked on 1/2 - 3/4 speed full swings, tend to not complete BS on those, flighting the wedges down, and driver CHS.

Driver getting smoother. In a rush to get to range, didn't have time to bring the Mevo. Feeling good about swing, hopefully can make some headway with scoring this season.
