Hey guys,

I recently got a new SW with 54* of loft and 10* of bounce.

After reading a bit more on what a SW should be, it seems that it may not be a great combination.

Any thoughts?

My 54/10 is a great all around wedge. I have no idea if you are a picker or digger, play in soft conditions, or if you need a lot of bounce. Either way, 54/10 is a popular set-up with medium bounce.

Depends on your swing style as Tourspoon suggested.  I use a 54-14 and 58-12, but I am a bit of a digger on full shots.  I have no issue with this amount of bounce on pitches and chips.

Don't just worry about bounce. I played a 54* + 58* last season, but had trouble getting out of the sand with the 54* if the bunker had any lip.

I dumped these two wedges, and replaced them with a 56*.

My sand wedge is a 56 with 14 degrees of bounce. I went with the highest bounce model available on the brand of wedge i went with. The 56.14 combo seems ideal for a SW and the conditions we get here.

Who's to say what "enough" is......

I prefer a little more.  My SW is a 56-14 which l like for softer bunkers, but you're good enough that you likely don't have any trouble.  When you open it up, your effective bounce increases anyways.  What I really like the extra bounce for is those little 60 foot pitches because I have a bit of a tendency to dig.

    • Looked like a tough day today. Jon Rahm didn't make the cut. I guess staring daggers at the camera didn't improve his putting any. And, what's with DeChambeau? All his length doesn't seem to be doing much good for him that I can see. He managed to sneak in under the cutline with a +2 but not a very good showing. Maybe if he dropped the Iron Byron look and added a bit more fluidity to his swing? Gary Woodland is doing OK so far but I expect to see him sag as the pressure builds. Hovland had a hard day, too, but only 5 shots back

    • Not sure there was a particularly awesome shot, but played in a neighborhood scramble today and had a natural eagle on the 18th hole. Hit a 245yd drive down the middle, hit a 210 5W onto the green to 12 ft and made the putt in front of 30 guys from the neighborhood yelling and talking trash from green side. Great hole for me. Only the 4th eagle I’ve ever had.    day overall was decent. The way I hit today was typical for me, not bad, not great.
    • This is bsically the Pelz method, yes?  I do similar, however I don't think I have enough separation between my 1/4 swing vs my 1/2 swing.  Mostly I get too much yardage out of my 1/4 swing.  I have a bit of tape with the yardages written on it on my club just below the grip.   Best feeling, once I shot the pin with my laser and it was 65, so... pulled my 52 degree which had 63 yards (for 1/ backswing) on it. One hit, one bounce, bingo.  I thought I had discovered the holy grail, but found out quickly, golf is hard. But I digress...
