Are uniflex's too weak for me?

I just picked up some x20's with the callaway uniflex and they don't seem to be as accurate as my old titleist 762's with x100's and i hit the 20's alot higher. I never hit a fade with the titleist and I hit a pretty big one with my 20's that I really don't like playing it for. I'll try to correct it and there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. what I was thinking was to switch to some x20 tours with the 6.0 project x's, because I want to keep the club head more forgiving than the titleist but with the lower more boring trajectory and some slight workability!

any opinions would be greatly appreciated

I swing the driver around 105-110, hit a 6 about 190-200

right off the bat with your 6 iron distance i can see that the uniflex shaft will likley not work for you unless you step off your irons a little. your driver swing speed is a little odd as i thought it would be higher if you are hitting your 6 iron 190 plus yards. i hit my 6 iron 180-185 or perhaps 190 if i step on it. i have true temper actionlite stiff shafts in my irons.

i have a uniflex shafted callaway 5 wood and find it just right. i'll hit that about 230 yards with a slight draw at about 85-90% swing.

Uniflex shafts are definitely not the right shaft for you becuase of your swing speed. At your speeds the shaft is getting wipped through impact at different positions each swing leading to inconsistency. I use to have a 3 wood with the Uniflex shaft and I tried to learn to hit that club for two years. Finally I went and had an X100 shaft installed and tipped it a 1/2 inch and then I could swing as hard as I wanted and it went right down the middle. Well most of the time.

well i went ahead and ordered some 6.0 rifled x20 tours today so hopefully i'll get some more consistency!

I play x-20's and was wondering when should one switch or not from the uniflex stock iron shafts to a different type like KBS, True Temper, Project X etc.? My driver swing speed avg is 88 mph.

If you driver swing speed is 88mph then the Uniflex might be a good shaft for you...the reason to change would be if you are not happy with any of the following:

1)  Feel

2)  Ball flight

3)  Dispersion

Any of all of these could lead you to playing a different shaft and do not just go on what a machine tells you...for instance I was fitted for KBS Tour X stiff (my 6 iron swing speed is 85) soft stepped...so I had my irons built that way and hated them as they felt horrible...yeah the ball flight and dispersion were fine but they felt very hard to me...now I play KBS Tour stiff and they feel awesome!

I played Callaway X20s w/Uniflex the past two seasons. My driver SS is about 85 mph. Uniflex falls between R and S flex, and has a mid-kickpoint. IMO, it's an OK shaft for lots of golfers, but the ideal shaft for very few.

When hunting for clubs in 2008-09, I had also hit the G10s and Big Berthas. Both are UGI clubs like the X20s, but they had high launch shafts  - ball just ballooned too much. Uniflex midkick gave better trajectory on the X20s, and decent yardage.

X20s were a good club, but the heads were a bit sticky out of the rough, and didn' have the feel of the X20 Tours I had also tried. Anyway, I look on Callaway Preowned and stumbled across a set of X20 Tours shafted in PX 5.0 Rifle Flighted. Most X20 Tours come with DG S300 or the stiff+ PX 6.0.

I trade in the X20s, and have been testing the X20 Tours. Short irons are OK, but I might have to softstep 3i-6i. PX 5.0 is a bit firmer than DG R300, but seems about the same as the Uniflex. Will wait until spring really comes and I can play a couple of 18s before deciding on softstep.

For reshafts, I had discussed KBS Tour 90 and TT DG R300 SL (Superlight) with my pro. But, on cost comparison and the fact I plan to really start playing a lot of golf, I went with the X20 Tours.

For your irons? I would say it depends on how much you will be able to play, and how much you can work on your game. If you're not sure new shafts will help, just keep the X20s as is - they're good clubs.

Thanks for the response Wutiger. I have been playing often. I would say as the season really kicks in I will be playing at least 2 times a week. That being said I am scheduling a lesson sometime in mid April. I am not looking to make any real changes right now. After a few lessons my next step would be a fitting. Not real sure I would stick with the x-20's just because to have all the clubs re-shafted and gripped could get very costly and could very well just get what I want and hopefully what suits my game from the start. I was just curious if the shaft could be holding my game back. Lets face it I could use all the help I can get.
