I use the new style Pro v1, I've been hitting them great and producing low scores. The biggest problem is when I hit the balls with my irons and wedges, the grooves in my irons seem to cut the ball. Is there a hard outer layer on golf balls out there that will produce the same results as the Pro v1?

Not if you want the same spin.  You get that spin from a soft cover, so theres really nothing you can do.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

Try out the Callaway Hex Chrome. They have lots of spin, and a durable cover. You're not going get the same spin a the Prov1, but the Chrome spins pretty good with short irons, and around the green chip shots.

What irons and wedges are you playing? I'll go out on a limb and guess your playing with non-conforming grooves. Before the rule change my wedges would shred the daylights out of any premium ball. With the new grooves I have experienced "zero" shredding! With the rule change many ball manufactures made adjustments by making the cover even softer. Using the old grooves with the new ball will produce some unbelievable shredding!!!

If i made a golf ball with conforming specs but with a 'nerf' interior and titanium cover with dimples would that ball fly farther but spin less? Since the ball would 'deform' very little upon impact seems just the thing for us guys wanting more distance. Now i need a good name. Any ideas?

I believe that his SV wedges are non-conforming.

Aren't the Pro V1 and Pro V1x advertised as being lower spin and thus longer distance balls?

I like Bridgestone's tour ball, easily second best behind the pro v and they have a few different versions of the ball

If you can still find them, there usually on sale.

taylormade LPD blacks

They never caught on when they first came out, so they been on sale for the past 3 years :p. But, there basically a low end tour ball, and on sale, at medium range ball price. 3-piece golf ball with a ton of feel round the greens.
