Dude, nice round! Forget the 3-putts, you hit 10 GIR!

Yeah, it was a pretty good day overall. I was told that tomorrow as long as we don't try to hit driver wedge all the time we should be fine.

Yea, I took a peek at the course on GameGolf. Seems like a lot of the landing areas get really narrow. I'm planning on hitting a lot of hybrids or long irons off the tee. I'm going to play on the safe side of conservative since this will be the first time playing the course.

Ok, well..... Course had some beautiful holes, seemed to me like it had been maintenanced not to long ago so it wasn't super good looking. It was very tough. I laughed at myself a lot today, between bad luck, bad swings, and just wtf moments I gave up on caring about score in very short order. Was great to get a round in with Bill but next time we'll definitely pick an easier course.

Yeah, half the time I was in the fairway today I was hitting off some strange dead grass/dirt stuff that just didn't help me.. Being able to laugh at your self is a good thing.. But I don't think you should stop caring about score, I think it helps keeping it to always keep things in perspective.. But that's my opinion only. At least you had fun!

Was a lot of fun playing golf with @Jeremie Boop . We saw a lot of the golf course and got a lot of shots in for our money ;-) The word of the day was moguls; you didn't get an flat lie even if you were in the fairway. Next time we're going to an easier course :-) I tried to vlog it, but had problems with my camera stopping the recordings after the 6th hole when I switched batteries. Eventually gave up since it wasn't filming properly and it was a PITA to set up the camera every shot for nothing. My favorite hole, the par 3 11th: I'm on the green, taking a picture of the tees. They are up on the cliff some 80' above me. Jeremie's lie on the par 4 16th: He hit a perfect drive straight down the middle of the fairway and we couldn't find the ball. I eventually found it in a drainage ditch. That basically sums up our day :-D

Went to the range today to focus on my main piece of keeping my right elbow from getting behind me. I'm still struggling with this, as @billchao noticed during our round. When I do well focusing on keeping it in a better place I have some really nice results. However, when I get lax in my focus it's like I just picked up a club for the first time. The range went well today for the most part, I took my time and hit several shots with every club in my bag really focusing on keeping that feeling of contacted between my upper bicep and my chest. There were a lot of really quality strikes and most of the bad strikes were just thin. Only other thing I've been struggling with is syncing up my upper and lower body rotation. This could be more of a tempo problem but I'll worry about that more when I have mastered my main piece. Just seems like this main piece is going to take a long time to get ingrained. I know the work is worth it though, because when I execute it properly the shots just look awesome.

Went to the course. Was mostly able to take the range work to the course. The middle 12 holes were great, played them in 5 over. First hole I was waiting then next two I was rushing because a group was letting me play through. Last 3 I ran into a back up and it took me probably 45+ minutes to get those last 3 holes done. Went around again, played front 9 at 7 over and then ran into a slow down on the back. It was a hot mess and ended with a 50 on the back. I think it was a combination of getting worn out and all the waiting. I should have taken the hint when the single in front of me drove off before even starting 15. Apparently he had been waiting a lot prior to me catching up and he just called it quits. In hindsight, it probably would have been the smart thing to do knowing how slow play tends to wreck my game.

That is a ton of golf in one day. Playing well on holes 19-27 is pretty impressive.

Most of the time on the weekend I play at least one day of unlimited golf at a course near me that's 25 with a cart after 1 pm. I usually don't get to start until 2-3 and get 36-45 done pretty easily. I think the most I've ever done was 54 in a day.

I'm starting to get a nice consistent feel for keeping my right elbow from getting too far behind me. I'm going to try to get to the range tomorrow to get some new video if the grass tee is open and is in a flat area. I'm still not able to execute this feel naturally without thinking about it, but when I am able to execute it I've really been able to string together some good shots and holes. I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to move to working on anything else in my swing, but I'm excited and curious to see how low my handicap will get to once I'm able to make this fully ingrained since I've dropped my handicap more than 4 in the last month and a half.

I'm also trying to decide what my next goal for my index should be. I didn't expect to hit my goal of 18 so quickly after making it.

Ok, so here are some updated swings using my feel for keeping my right elbow from getting behind my shirt seam. Obviously there's still some flip in my swing, it may or may not be much better than before but that's not my main focus right now. I think I could stand to get my arms a bit higher in my backswing, basically thinking I need to get my left arm in line with my shoulders maybe? Anything specific that I'm doing wrong or maybe I should start working on? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You could try and keep the right arm straighter; a lot of that elbow coming behind you is the right arm retracting backwards instead of folding up.

Another thing you could do is on the initial part of the backswing feel as though the right arm is on top of the left That'll also keep the club head more outside the hands.

I appreciate the input. I had been thinking I had elbow behind me problem mostly fixed, but those may also help get my arms higher in my backswing. One thing I know for sure is I need to work on my downswing soon. I know @iacas has told me to work on really firing my arms down from the top. I assume this is to get my hands closer to my left leg at impact to help eliminate my flip.

*edit* I did just notice that I let the ball creep back in my stance a bit, which I know tends to lead to flipping. I will have to redo some videos tomorrow and move the ball forward to see if that helps reduce the flip.

It's better than before.

Probably could get a more like this. First move in the backswing is just turning, then getting the left arm to raise up more. You push the hands straight back a lot and send the clubhead inside. This will be the part that gets you away from that right elbow as well. When your left arm goes up, the right elbow can not go around.

For the downswing I would work on staying in your tilt and rotating that right side through a lot more. You have a lot of the same moves I am changing away from.

Makes sense, what you are saying about the back swing and the club position matches what jbishop15 said about keeping my right arm on top of the left on the take away. This should keep the club pointing straight back longer. I'll work on that a bit while trying to keep the feel I have at the top of the back swing of my upper arm being in contact with my chest. I'll also move the ball forward to where it's supposed to be in my stance to see if that calms down the flip a bit. If I can successfully integrate the improved takeaway while retaining the improved top of the back swing I think it may be time to move towards focusing the downswing portion. Thank you for the pointers.

Using @jbishop15 's advice about keeping the right arm over the left on the takeaway to get into a better position per @saevel25 's posted picture.

It seems to be working well and I'm still able to retain the feel at the top:

Doesn't seem to be any real changes here... Not sure if that's good or bad.

I can't figure out anything to fix my flip though... Seeing as how the takeaway and back swing issues look to be pretty much under control at this point I really think it's about time to move on to addressing that since it is my biggest issue. Though I'll wait for some confirmation of that before I actually make that move.

Much better. From that point the left arm goes up more instead of behind you. Your hands will be more over your right shoulder than behind it.

SLAM your hands down very quickly from the top. Very armsy feel, probably, but I want those arms coming down FAST.

I just wanted to touch on this because now that I feel like I have a good handle on the back swing portion I'm looking to work on my flipping issue once again. Is this specific feel you are talking about meant to address the flip?

And if we are being honest Daniel Day Lewis had a hell of a performance in There Will Be Blood. Actually if you watch There Will Be Blood and then Phantom Thread, you get to see DDL perform at 2 very different characters at opposite ends of the spectrum) No Country for Old Men Godfather (GodFather 2 may be the better film) Good Fellas (I might argue that Casino deserves as much love as Good Fellas, it is simply a great gangster film) Usual Suspects Saving Private Ryan (but Spielberg has made so many great movies) L.A.
