All that means is that there are 2 par 5s on the course that are called par 4s.

It's no less a feat by any means.

Can even be more imopressive.

yeah, i looked it up and it seems like theres more 59s on par 72s and 71s.  impressive by any means.  not sure if Tigs is going to get it, he left that short birdie putt on the par 3 out there...

Why does that matter? When par is 70, you have to make two fewer birdies to get to 59 so it's all the same. Making birdies only matters when you're talking about getting to -13.

You can argue Par is harder on the two converted 5s that are 4s.  Also, the opportunity to make eagle exists....it's much easier to make eagle on the green on a par 5 than eagle from the fairway on a par 4.

Regardless, my response was basically to say it's the same.

Who cares how long they are? If you're trying to get under par by a certain amount...then you're right. But it doesn't matter how many birdies you have.

If you shoot a 51 besides those two holes, you need a 4 on each of those to reach 59. It really doesn't matter whether you call that 2 birdies or 2 pars, it comes to a 59. The total is what matters, not the score relative to par.

I understand that it's harder to get par on those two holes because of how long they are, but Deryk seems to be saying that it is harder to get 59 because it is harder to birdie those holes, but that is negated by the fact that you don't need birdies on those holes to get to 59. You need a par 4, which is just as difficult as a birdie 4 if they called it a par 5.
