Is it just me or do the guys yelling at the Tee boxes during the PGA events bug the @#$! out of anyone else? Can the PGA do anything about this? Should they do something about this?

I don't know why they don't ban this -- kick people out. They would kick you out if you yelled over and over during the backswing.

Yes it bugs the @#$! out of me too.

Trying to stop it is probably a can of worms that the PGA doesn't want to open though.

Somebody would have to decide:

What can be said, how loudly it could be said, when it could be said, and whether any enforcement included all holes on all courses. (TPC at Scottsdale 16th hole? Lots of money there in that crowd of drunks).

Who enforces the rule. (Hire yell prevention security?)

What the penalty would be. (Escorted off of the property?).

What happens if whoever is enforcing the rule gets the wrong person and kicks them out. (A lawsuit?).

What happens if they won't go. (Probable cause for law enforcement?).

I have no answers and I'm glad I'm not in charge of solving it. I would probably do just what they are currently doing, which is nothing.

honestly jmo, as long as its not offensive and not in the middle of their backswing, i kind of get a giggle out of the stuff people say.....

I love it !!!! As long as it is AFTER the shot and not during the backswing...Who Cares !!!! I'd like to know who started the "mashed potato" epidemic and give them a high five

If anyone wants to follow me during my round and scream it... be my guest... you probably will not stay for long though !!!!

Kick them out.  "In-the-hole!!" guy is a moron.  It's not clever, it's not entertaining, and having to listen to that idiocy ruins the broadcast.

It's the ultimate "look at me" moment. Why not just yell "look at me!!", or "I'm a giant tool!!!"

Hey, in-the-hole guy, you're a dumb ass. I hate these pricks.  They don't add anything to the event.  The next time I'm at a PGA event and I hear this POS yell something stupid, I'm in his face yelling STFU.  I tune in to watch the golf, not listen to stupidity.

The "in the hole" guy is out dated, I do agree with you on that note. I love the mash potato because it has nothing to do with golf.

I wonder if the guy who first say it is sitting around telling his buddies that he started it... I know i would

The thing that gets on my goat is the "Get in the hole" shout too, granted if, say, the player is on a par-3 the ball has hit the green off the tee and it looks like it has the line to the pin, but half the time, they'd shout the bugger at anything, soon, I'm expecting a caddie to pull out a bottle of water from the bag and someone shout it.

I like shouts for players, dont get me wrong, like "Luuukkkkkkkeeeeeeeeee", and obviously, fans have a god given right to support their favourite players/team, spur them on, thats all part of sport. But to shout absolute bollocks for the sake of shouting absolute bollocks, well, its no fun really, and spoils the occasion for me when I'm watching it on the TV.

Yes, the Mashed Potato thing was funny, but, give it a few months, and the mashed potato bloke will be up there with the get-in-the-hole bloke too in the list of "Will you just shut the **** up!" list! :D

As Mr Alliss put in his tweet:

Has the vote for the flag on 15 for the PGA been taken? I vote it should be placed in the mouth of the chap who shouts "get in the hole".

I agree that these particular golf fans are overtly annoying, at the least.

This raucous behavior gets amusing at the Waste Management event's 16th hole, and then you add the caddie race, but once a year is enough...    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb4EWPybZjo

If you took a poll of people who loved it and people who hated this behavior, the results would probably be that the people who find it most annoying are older, more traditional golfers, and the ones who accept it as unobjectionable, even exciting, would be those who drink a six pack or more on the course during their round of golf.

Penalty?  The PGA should round up all of the shouters, put them on a platform in the middle of a water hazard on the course, and then every time they shout, "In the hole," "You 'da man," or something else that could be considered idiotic, open a trap door on the platform.

Does it bother me? Not at all. Do I think it is creative, intelligent, or necessary? No not at all.

But does that mean these people should be kicked out? No, they are not hurting anyone, they are not breaking any rules. They paid money to enjoy the event and if that is how they get enjoyment then more power to them. Its not during the swing, so I am not sure what the issue would be

Remember when streaking was the craze? Dumbasses would run onto baseball fields naked, or drunk fans would try to cause a scene by running onto a football field or whatever. The TV networks covering the events made a decision to not show these morons. Guess what happened - it stopped occurring.

Networks can 'mute' the audio the moment after impact so these jackbag's comment aren't heard on TV.

Take away the stage, the actor disappears.

The proper use of "bababooey" is to say it at least twice - "Bababooey, bababooey" - used to be a Howard Stern listener before he went to Sirius.

The only one I heard that was mildly entertaining was after a Jim Furyk drive. Somebody yelled, "FIVE HOUR ENERGY!". It got a chuckle out of me. All the other guys are just dumarses.

I can't stand it.

The players themselves should be able to request these guys to be ejected.

Other than that, I'd be happy if the networks just edited the shout out of the show.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
