Is San Jose Country Club your home course? One of our brokers at work said he's a member there and the grass had a disease and had to do a lot of maintenance the next few weeks.

@RPMPIRE Yup. The closure, green replacement, and sandchanneling was planned before the fungus attack. The fungus attacked us sometime in July and made a bunch of areas really bad, particularly around the greens.

I'm less enthusiastic about golfing mostly because I've played really poorly this year, but still up for this happening.  Let's discuss some dates and hope the weather holds up.

Yes it is. My apologies for not keeping up with this outing. I'm thinking of saving the bigger outing for early next year or even the Springtime.

In the meantime, if a few guys are available, we can set up something on a weekend in the coming weeks. Hopefully it stays dry then.

Ryan

I might want to play Coyote Creek Next Friday afternoon (twilight).

Does anyone want to join me and my son?

Looks like it is in San Jose, which is a couple hour drive for me.  I will give it some thought this weekend.  I'm driving 1.5 hours in the other direction to visit an uncle for Thanksgiving the day before, that is the only thing that would keep me from going.

Yeah, this is a tough season to plan golf outings. Let's see, we're not firm on the exact time either.

Look forward to it, if you can make it :-)

I'll have family in town so I definitely won't be able to make it on that Friday. Would have loved to join you guys. Have fun out there!

In any case, I will let you all know how it goes, hoping it does not get rained out. Might be a possible location for a NorCal outing?

I'm in the Fresno area, so I am pretty much dead middle of SoCal and NorCal.  Probably join you guys at some of your NorCal events if it's not too far from the Elk Grove area, can stay with a family member who lives there.  My brother Golfingdad always talks about his SoCal outings so maybe it's about time I got in to the NorCal side and when we play this California Ryder Cup thing I can get in his head and we can dominate him and his SoCal buddies, LOL.

Getting a little confident there with your snazzy new clubs, eh?? ;) Alright, I gotcha.

I'm in and around the Elk Grove area, so maybe we can meet up and play sometime.  Most of my family stays there and that's where I used to coach.

Lihu, you're gonna have to count me out on Friday unfortunately.  Maybe another time.

I heard that place is a 36 hole complex? Never played there but have heard really good things about it.

Then of course there is my home. http://www.roddyranch.com/

That CA ryder cup match would be an awesome outing. our club competes against 2 other clubs in the area in a ryder cup format called the diablo cup, I have not had the chance to play in it yet cause I just didn't play enough events this past season.

Maybe if the Cal Cup event happens we could have it alternate from northern to southern every year or do 1 weekend north and the next south.

That is a great idea.

Being realistic, though, us NorCal guys need to get some rounds in together.  The SoCal guys will have quite the team camaraderie built up by the time we get a match put together, which will be tough to overcome.  We have to start building our own!

Good news is we have time, as a Ryder Cup style match would probably be best suited for mid-to-late summer anyway, right?

That is good that time is plenty for now, but it also flies by, we would need at least 10 to 12 players right?

Have fun and hope to see you at the So. Cal. outing. :-)

For the "Ryder Cup", will be on the Nor. Cal. or So. Cal Team?

    • From what I heard over the weekend, Shedeur pulled a "Bo Callahan" with the Giants. Per Todd McShay: “Shedeur didn’t have a great interview with Brian Daboll in a private visit. An install package came in, preparation wasn’t there for it, he got called out on it, he didn’t like that. Brian didn’t appreciate him not liking it." You can have all the talent in the world (which I am not sure he has, as CU tailored the offense to his strength in a weak division ), but you have to act like a top round draft pick and not like an unproven legend! If you get drafter at 3 as a QB in the draft you are expected to lead that team, and preparation is part of that.  Playing ball in NY (any sport) requires you to deal with criticism, and deal with it as a professional.
    • I agree that in a pure stroke-play situation the use of E-5 limits the possible scores by limiting the potential to hit multiple shots OB.  But in a Stableford or "quota" game, a player is likely to be in "blob" territory anyway, so its a minimal difference.   I understand that E-5 is viewed differently in different parts of the world, I don't know what the Australian attitude would be, but I don't see a problem with using it.
    • Probably hurt him a small bit. I am pretty sure Ward didn’t throw. He probably over evaluated his skill. Which may be his entitled attitude. I agree with the pick at that point. I think he’s closer to an end of the day 2 pick than a day 1 prospect. There has been plenty of QB’s who had similar numbers that don’t thrive in the NFL. It’s easy to get a high comp% in college and put up big numbers. 1) Colorado had to score a lot to win, so they aired it out. 2) The level of competition is low.  Against FBS teams with a winning % he was 70% with 7.5 y/a. Lots of short easy stuff.  Versus Will Howard who had 75% with 9.5 y/a. That 2 y/a is huge.  Cam Ward, 67% at 10 y/a. Look at Joe Burrow, 75% at 10.2 y/a. He was unable to read defenses well enough against FBS teams with winning % to push the ball down field.  I get his o-line was bad, but Miami had an average O-line, not elite and there is a noticeable difference between the two QB’s. They should never been talked as 1A/1B.
    • That's what I'd suggest you do ,post hole-by-hole, post an "x" for the holes not played,  unless directed otherwise by a Handicap Committee with approval from your state golf association.  "Par plus.." is no longer used, unless specific instructions are given.  Note that Clarification 3.2b/2 says it should be used "only when approved by the Authorized Association".
    • I have no idea if he's any good or not. I've only ever seen him play one game. I will say he probably got bad advice going into the draft. He should have done all the "Combine Stuff" at the combine. Refusing to throw at that combine hurt.  I disagree about what his game film shows. I'm no expert, but I tried to watch as much as I could this weekend. I think it's really hard to find any game film on him that's worth a pile of beans. He's either playing really inferior competition in which case the game film is worthless. Or he's immediately running for his life the moment the ball is snapped. In which case the game film is worthless. He should have gone through the combine stuff. That was a huge mistake.  I do think it's a great pick for the Browns in the 5th round. Why not take him at that point? I think he has a chance to develop into something. Completing 75% of his passes, for 4100 yards, 37 TD's with only 10 picks behind that terrible offensive line is pretty good numbers. He may stink out loud at the next level, but being picked in the 5th round means he isn't a bust. He's just a 5th round pick that didn't work out.  If he stinks. Who cares? .... The Browns have had plenty of bad quarterbacks over the last 25 years.
