I tend to agree with the OP, that it is a tired old joke that some people still think is funny.  It doesn't bother me much when people do it though-I just smile and shake my head.

Best answer of the thread.  Thanks

I don't know anyone that finds it truly funny.  But it is an old stand by and, frankly, part of the culture and such a common thread everywhere.  The 'traditionalists' should revel in it, perhaps just smile and shake their heads at the old standby, but it seems some 'traditionalists' are also just cranky little girls that are easily rubbed the wrong way.

It's pretty much just a testament to how touchy some types of golfers are.

I actually prefer either 1) "you needed more club" or 2) "at least you hit it straight".  But that's just me.

And, I laughed the first time I heard, "That shot makes for a long hole, doesn't it?"

It's also fun to yell, "FORE" as loud as you can.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

See.  There you go.  Bring some new material to the table and it's all good.  To me the "one" joke is right up there with "thats what she said" as the most annoying, played out jokes.

Me:  Get in the HOLE!

Some Jackass:  That's what she said.

I enjoy waiting for that perfect moment when someone is hitting a blind shot so they say "watch this for me to see where it lands"..then they hit it so fat it only goes about 10 yards....."I see it!...good layup!"

Then Karma smacks me and I do the same dang thing!

when someone knocks a ball off the tee I sometimes can't stop myself from saying "stroke" like a rowing captain.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

The correct response to making this error, ideally before someone shouts 'one!', is to whistle and say 'tough course, this.' That'll grate on your buddies just as much if you do it several times a round too.

    • Yeah, she's fine. Gets repetitive in my opinion. I don't dislike her. I don't love her. She's just kinda there. I like her song "Paper Rings" probably the best of her library.  I'm pretty sure she is like the second highest selling female artist of all time or something like that.  Taylor wouldn't make my Mount Rushmore of female singers. For me that would be (off the top of my head):  Madonna, Cher, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. .... and I might drop Whitney for Brittney or Dolly. ...  Can you tell what era I grew up in? 😁
    • Apologies if this topic has already been discussed but I need some help, its where my ball is going after I strike it,the irons especially, the problem is hitting say a 6 iron my ball likes to go through the atmosphere, seriously it goes up to the moon,I know a high flight is desirable but its killing my distances, the strike feels great I admit but if my ball flight was lower then I would get more distance out of it,my metal drives are fine it's just mid irons, any advice much appreciated...
    • I was trying not to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't listened yet, so I left it open. Unsurprising: swingyde and alignment sticks. Surprising: foam balls and heavy clubs I did wonder about the alignment sticks and S tier. I think at least in part, the personality of the first person to go will dictate things. I bet if you'd gone first it would have been S, but sometimes people can be nervous to put their neck out there and go with S to have that wound back in afterwards.
    • Them's fighting words. No, I mean, I get it. It really helps to know the stories behind each one. Lyrically she's one of the best in the game, maybe the best in the game. She's possibly the (current day) Scottie Scheffler, except she's had the career length of Tiger Woods.
