I agree.  The first one was great, the other two sucked.

I didn't drink in college.

Still, I would have liked a better plot. If the pacing is good, the action is good, and the characters are not terrible then I'll enjoy he movie. There was very few scenes were I thought were cringe worthy. They were good movies to just sit back and enjoy the ride.

The first movie is the best of the three by a long shot.

I watched Love Means Zero, the documentary about Nick Bollettieri. I'd just read Andre Agassi's book a month ago, and I rate this movie as a bogey because it was almost as much about Andre as it was about Nick. I understand that those two are linked, but… it was supposed to be about Nick. And it was 30% about Nick, 40% about Andre, and 30% about Nick's other students.

Watched The Tomorrow War while getting some work done.

I give it a par. Was worth the time to watch it once, though it nearly managed a bogey for just how much is kinda glossed over and how convenient some of the things feel.

It was also free on Amazon Prime, too, so… worth the cost of time (2:10) and $ (none).

Watched The Vow, with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. I give it a birdie, despite some pretty stiff acting from Channing (go figure), and probably only because of lower expectations. It had some good twists, a good story. I won't spoil it, but it didn't quite go how I thought it would. And I appreciated that.

Not something you'd watch again unless you're a big McAdams fan (I'm close, she's great) or, I suppose, a Tatum fan (ugh). But good once.

Saw Shang-Chi on Saturday. I will give it a tap in par. A pretty good starter movie for a new superhero in the MCU. The actors were good, and the Shang-Chi character was pretty good. I really enjoyed the action scenes, which might have had the best choreographed fight scenes in any MCU movie. I enjoy martial arts movies. The CGI was great in some spots, and just good in others.

No Time to Die - Par

Massive massive spoilers

Spoiler

Holy shit they fraking killed Bond. Not surprised, but they actually did it. They gave him a kid too. Your Royal Majesty's Child Protection Service, reporting for duty. Love interest and villain very flat. Bloated runtime. Some great set pieces. Goodbye Craig Daniels, you had a good run. I never get tired of watching guns shooting out of car headlights.

Went to see Dune today.

As a fan of the original book series, I liked this movie a lot. I thought they kept the same pacing, and the important parts from the book. There was a few specific details that were lost, and rushed. I understand the direction they took, being this has to be a 2.5 hour movie that covers the first half of the first book (if I remember correctly). I like the grand scale of the movie, and how they introduced all the major players in the story and did some good world building. Being that, the movie for some could drag a bit. It is not the fast pacing style of movie you tend to see today. For me, I give it a tap in Birdie. I could totally understand some people who might not like this movie at all. Dune is one of my favorite books of all time. I just think the story and characters are really good. I felt like they got a great cast for the movie. Modern special effects really help the world building.

No Time to Die, birdie. Maybe an eagle.

No spoilers here, except to point out that it helps to have paid attention to the past few movies, because unlike most Bond movies before these last few, they're not self-contained. Storylines run throughout them.

Cherry, bogey.

It was formulaic in a sense and just… blah. It wasn't interesting. I didn't really care about the characters. I understood, but that was as close to empathetic as I felt.

    • Yea, but a deeper face makes it not as useful off the fairway. This is why the driver is not easy to hit off the fairway.  For a select few PGA Tour players, it might be good. The concept of the mini driver has been around for a long time now. Very few ever keep it in their bag. This is a guess, but probably because it sucks off the ground. Nothing here looks like it is any different than the other mini drivers of the past.  I get it from Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris point of view. They hit the ball a long way. The odds they ever hit a 3-wood off the turf is like what, a handful a times a year? They probably would hit it 98% off the tee and 2% off the ground. They probably want something that think is longer off the tee versus their 3-wood because they don't hit the 3-wood off the ground much at all.  This is where I say, Titleist claiming "worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck." is more marketing than something that is actually beneficial to a golfer. This is primarily for off the tee.
    • One thing I've noticed with Mini Drivers is that the manufacturers seem like they keep their quantities somewhat limited.  The last two TaylorMade Mini's and the Callaway AI Smoke Mini were sold out quickly.
    • Huh? That's the niche of these mini-drivers. They can still work off the tee and off the fairway. They're designed for and work for both things, which is all that blurb says. You can see from the photos that it's a bit of a deeper face, which I find is more important off the tee than the fairway.
    • This statement doesn't make much sense to me.  So, I think the push and pull between a 3-wood meant for off the turf versus off the tee is how tall the face is on the 3-wood. I do not get how this mini driver would be good off the turf, or at least get the height needed to stop the ball as a normal 3-wood meant for off the ground. Maybe they care more about hitting the 3-wood off the tee versus off the turf. Nearly every strike would be low on the clubface relative to the CG location.  I would take that statement as more as marketing over what you would actually expect the club to perform.
    • No, not that Minnie Driver. This one: It's a mini driver from Titleist, available for Tour validation/testing starting this week at Kapalua. It's available in righty and lefty and is only in 13° models for now. GT280 is a direct result of Titleist’s collaboration with PGA TOUR players on the development and testing of the TSR 2W prototype, which debuted on TOUR at last year’s PLAYERS Championship. With many players seeking an additional option at the top end of their setup, Titleist tour reps and R&D engineers worked with players such as Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris to dial in a 13-degree head that worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck. Now on Tour: New Titleist GT280 The arrival of the 2025 PGA TOUR season this week in Maui brings with it an addition to Titleist’s breakthrough line of GT metalwoods: the new Titleist GT280.
