Amen, brother.  Sometimes you feel like you played great (hit the ball well), but score like crap.  Other times you feel like you played like crap (hit the ball terrible), but end up with a great score (good putting scrambling, etc.).

Either way, try to take the positives from the round.  You either hit the ball great or you ended up with a great score.  Both a plus to work from.

Shot a 65 in the final round of my first club championship! I was 17 years old and was probably a 2-3 hdcp. I shot a 76 in the first round and just found that magical swing on the range the next day! which led to the 65 with 1 eagle and 5 birdies. I have a handful of other rounds in the mid 60's but never found that "zone" and have been searching for it ever since.

I shot -1 70 in a tournament recently, that's my current low.. shot 74 the next day and ended tied for 7th.  I've shot 71-73 probably 10-15 times this year, I just can't break through and have that dream round.  I'm waiting for it :) I had a glimpse of it recently in a different round, shot 39 on the front and came alive on the back 9, shooting -4 32.  Those 60's are coming, I can feel it :D

I don't have an official handicap as of yet, but would venture to say its probably in the low 20's right now. Yesterday I went out after work and shot a 78 thru 14 holes before it got too dark to see adequately. By far the best I've done in my 5 months of golfing.

The lowest I've ever shot is 67. Par 72, 6,650 yards 71.4 course rating.  Other than that, i've only broken 70, 3 other times.

My lowest score was a 74 on a par 71 course.  My handicap at the time was probably around a 12.

This year I managed my lowest 9 hole score of -2, but couldn't maintain that pace on the back nine, and fell apart to finish with a 78.

A 79 on a par 71 about a month or so ago. Handicap hasn't changed.

I had a miracle shot on #16 to let me break 80.

My drive went way right, but I had an pretty large opening straight in. I choked down on my 3W and swung easy. The club spun as I hit the grass and the ball went out right, hit a tree, and bounced back 15 feet behind me.

So naturally, I played the same shot, although this time from the fairway on the neighboring hole. I drilled it 240 and landed 20 feet to the right in some fescue. The ball ended up laying on top of a little patch, but there was no way I could get a clean hit off. So, I'm hitting 4 from on this fescue nest. I take my 60 degree and hit a punch/chip shot (pretty much hit almost at a 90* angle). THe ball landed on the green 9 feet away from the cup. I went on to 1 putt and save my par then parred the last two holes.

I tell you what though, being on the 18th with a 2 footer left to break 80 - my arms felt like they were forged into the toughest of metals in the depths of mordor.

I've shot +3 twice: last summer, 73 on a par 70 and in 1996 I shot a 75 a par 72.  I've had three 78s this summer.

Wow, that's really a low index for not breaking 70!  But they seem to start coming once you get that first one.  I kept hammering at the door with a couple of bogies or a double bogie that would ruin it at the end, sometimes my fault, sometimes not, then I holed a 9 iron on the 17th hole one day for an eagle, right after a double that I thought had taken me out of it.  I gagged in for a par on the last hole for a 69, three under.  Then I started doing it pretty often!  I think I stopped freezing on the back side after a good front, or maybe didn't give up after a bad one.  I've had more than one score in the 60s starting out with a double!  It's all in your head, is all I can figure.

I just started golfing a couple weeks ago since im done playing baseball/other sports for good now (graduated HS). My best on 18 so far is 102, shot a 46 on 9 on a different day. For all you guys scoring in the 70s/low 80s, how long did it take you to start consistently scoring like that on 18 holes?

I started golfing when I was 8 years old.  By the time I was in high school I was playing the best golf of my life and would break 80 a few times a season.  I routinely shot low 80's when I was 14 and 15 and then the injury bug hit me and a few broken wrists later and some military service and I've never fully recovered.  I'm finally playing routinely again and my game is slowly improving.

78 at Hunter's Pointe (Welland, ON).  It was my 2nd round this season, and the day before I shot a 90 at Terry Hills (Batavia, NY).  Unfortunately, that's how my game is this year...One day I could shoot 90, and the next day low 80's.
