Six 2nd place finishes! I gotta believe within the next few years Phil will kiss the trophy.

It better happen soon then, because at his age, the statistics are against him.

This.

I really think that Marion might have been his last shot at one. At his age, it seems like it's going to get tougher and tougher to win one. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled it off, but I'm not going to bet on it either.

I feel like he has 2 or 3 more to get it done. Its just so hard to win in your 40's especially after 45. I'd like to see him win one this year. I hope he gets it done but Im one of the guys rooting for Tiger to get to 19. So maybe I'm just happy to see to of the best ever reach their goals.

I agree it better happen soon cuz Father Time is against him. Mickelson sounds pleased by Callaway moving center if gravity back towards face in metal woods. Physical and mental ability, technology, sheer determination, and a little luck - let's hope they all work in sync for Phil to come out in top!

I said yes ... mainly because I really would love to see it happen.

Same here.  Next four US Open are at:

Pinehurst

Chambers Bay

Oakmont

Erin Hills

I'm not that familiar with Erin Hills but Pinehurst and Chambers Bay are going to be much different set-ups than what we're used to seeing at US Opens.  There's going to be no rough at Pinehurst and CB is a links courses.  Not sure if this helps or hurts Phil, even though he doesn't hit a ton of fairways he's done well on "traditional" US Open set-ups.

I think he's mentally ill, flurting with the nice guy puritain type, he is a no winner. just a nice guy that destiny fails to acheive.

no chance !

I would like him to, I wish he would, it would make a great story line, but when it comes to majors, no one is a shoe in any more....and I mean no one.

Because I don't think he will win the U.S. Open to complete the career grand slam.

:)

I typed that so you'd get the auto-response email. I know what you're asking. Namely, he's too old. He's running out of chances. He may have been close in 1999 or whenever, but where was he the last time when Michael Campbell of all people won? (Barely making the cut after a second-round 77, that's where.) And this isn't going to be the same old Pinehurst.

Oh great Swami I would say Phil has prepared his course strategy already and will be well focused on his goal. This is his legacy! He won't let it slip away.

I would like to see him win it, but sadly, I doubt he will...just a gut feeling.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
