How do I correct side spin, or do I need to?

I have been going to Golfsmiths lately to try and determine average yardages for my clubs.  On the spreadsheet I notice that side spin looks to be directly correlated to the offline figure.  A vast majority of my shots have side spin in the -1000 to -2000 range.  How do I correct this?

Better contact and swing path. Any deviation to the side is energy lost going towards the target, so yea, you are losing something with the side spin.

Line up the face angle with the swing path.

If you got the best players in the world to hit on that monitor, they would all have some "side spin". Really tough to hit it straight, and basically impossible to do it consistently. Having said that, if you want to lessen the amount the ball curves I would suggest posting a swing in the Member Swing forum . Can't tell you what to work on because I don't know what your particular issues are.

Obviously "side spin" is a common term in the golf world, you might find it interesting or already know that the ball is just spinning on one axis. Since this is in the instruction forum (from a Trackman pdf since I'm heading out the door):

"The backspin imparted to the ball by impact rotates around an axis called the “spin axis", black line below. It is important to understand spin axis because curving golf shots are the result of a tilted spin axis. A straight ball flight has a horizontal spin axis. Like the wings of an airplane, when the wings are parallel, the plane flies straight. When the spin axis tilts to the right, just like an airplane banking in the air, the ball will curve to the right. And when the spin axis tilts to the left, the ball will curve to the left. The red arrow shows backspin. "

So next time you hook one, tell your playing partners that you tilted the spin axis too far to the left
