If Tiger wins Bay Hill this week, it'll be his 9th victory there. That is ridiculous. And awesome.

Yeah but all those other shmoes are just kinda like the "red shirt" dudes in the old Star Trek show, part of the scenery and likely to be killed. :-P

He's also the only player who moves the needle every time .

I often record PGA Tour golf. I only tend to watch it the past few years when Tiger's playing. And even then, if he's not around the lead on Saturday or Sunday, I often still don't watch the coverage.

One of the few courses on tour that the public can play. The 18th hole anything can happen. And that shot to the Sunday pin placement is SCARY. I'm a decent player and the landing area looks miniscule from where that Robert Gamez plaque is located.

I may run down and watch for a day.  The problem is, I'd rather play golf, than watch golf ....

.....and if I play, we can still wander by our favorite local watering hole that employs very cute ladies dressed in very short skirts to serve very cold beer, and watch the tournament on the very big screen.   Kind of a win/win there. ;-)

is this accurate? thought most of the tour's courses were TPC and open to public, provided you had the cash  ---and I thought you needed a member to get you onto Arnie's course.

Tiger at a tourney is like the Pied Piper - he attracts all the novice, casual fans who many wouldn't know the difference between  hybrid club and a putter.  It's really kind of funny to see the mob---many in Nike Tiger gear.  It does make things better because it really reduces the number of followers on course with some of the other big names like Dufner, Kucher, Schnedeker, Donald, Rose, etc etc.  That old ESPN commercial is spot on how events look when TW is playing.......

Not much of a sense humour, eh? The OP is playing the role of Super Fan Boy somewhat tongue and cheek (his tongue, Tiger's cheeks, you guess which ones :-P).

I know many many serious fans of golf who only watch the majors and tournaments in which Tiger is playing (some only watch anything when he's contending).

Generally you need to book a room and stay at the lodge, but you can get on the course.

Buddy and I are planning to do it this summer.  Great little getaway.....we'll take the wives over there Saturday and spend the night on the town.  Some great restaurants and night life in that part of town.  Stay at the lodge and the ladies will head home after breakfast in the morning and we'll play.

If I make it, I'll keep an eye out for you!

I have an 82 year old friend who adores Tiger.  She calls him, "My Tiger".  She's never played golf in her life.  So I guess it does bump the ratings.

There are 52 tour events. If you open the attached link you can count 9 TPC courses. Pebble, Torrey Pines, Kapalua and a few others are also open to the public. No, you do not need a member to play Bay Hill, you just need to stay at the Hotel.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
