Was I in the wrong?

Some days at Community, it gets hard to find places to hit the ball and not risk nailing somebody. I've had numbskulls fly out in front of my tee box after shanking one. One afternoon we were all set to hit our drives and a four-some rolls up and parks 50 yards away. All four hit balls back toward the adjacent green. Didn't say anything. Just crossed my arms and glared.

I've had balls land within 10' of me multiple times at Kittyhawk and Community with no warning. It is pretty bad here which might be why that guy over-reacted.

He didn't really over react, it just seemed like no matter what I said he would be pissed off. So i just apologized and let it go from there.

Yea community gets an absurd amount of play, especially during league play after work on the weeknights.

You handled it the best way possible. Was it 13 on the inside course? Last time I played there, the greens were in bad shape. Tons of night crawler holes. Is it in good condition?

Not really. The years of over capacity on the course and not taking care of the greens have really beat them up. They are better than last year. Last year the root system was really bad. Fixing a ball mark was nearly impossible because you could easily tear the grass up. Now the roots are much stronger. Still the course is overplayed and no one fixes ball marks, and this dry spring so far has already browned them out a bit. Hopefully this recent rain will help them out. They need some TLC right now.

During one of the last rounds I played last fall I drove up to my ball in the fairway and stood next to my cart while the away people in my group hit.  I heard the hissing of a ball flying at or near me so I kinda twitched and ducked because I didn't know where it was coming from and the thing bounced off my cart.  Not a word from the clown who hit it, which was on a short 130 yard par 3 parallel to the hole I was on.  Some douches don't say anything and some overreact, all I know is stand by your cart or a tree if possible.

I think you did well to say sorry and than just let them go.

Probably the guy hit a bad tee shot and he blamed you for that.

I get that logic. When I hear "FORE", I usually either find the nearest tree to hid behind. Or I will turn around and cover my head. If it it hits me it hits me. Worse thing I could do is look up and get whacked upside the head by a golf ball.

I guess if a person is stupid enough to just aimlessly run around, then he deserves to get hit.  When I hear "Fore!", I duck and cover, nothing more - if the ball is going to hit me then at least it won't be a big deal.  Most relatively experienced players would do the same.  The only time I'll move is if I'm very close to a tree that I can hide behind.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
