I used to play with one guy that was a terrible putter. Seemed like after the greens were punched he putted twice as well.

I used to tell him it was because when the greens were smooth he had a 100% chance of his off line putt missing the hole. With the greens punched he had a 50% chance that one of the holes was going to knock his ball the right direction and he would make the putt.

Hahahahahaha...........................that gave me a good chuckle.  Thank you!

As for some of the other comments:

Every course aerates, and it's just a fact of life.  Some courses are nice and some courses are dumps.........and the same can be said for aerating greens and how well each course performs this task.  All greens are obviously effected adversely, but to what extent varies greatly from course to course.

With that said, when I used to play around a lot, I'd ALWAYS ask each course when the greens were aerated before playing during the spring/fall when the greens were getting punched.  All courses aerate at slightly different times and it's possible to completely avoid freshly aerated greens if you plan your golf wisely.   Of course, it helps if you live in a populated area with many golf courses.

Dang it is getting to be that time. Never a good feeling knowing fall is getting ready to limit golf. Like going to work the day after Xmas. We've got a few weeks before they do it here, probably late Sep. I may limit golf to supervised practice with the instructor and range time when handicap season ends. I'm not golfing as much as chasing a number now.

Dave :-)

Here (Socal) I think it's typically April and October (ish) for most courses.  But it's really easy to avoid because they're spread out over enough weeks that you can always find a course with decent greens.  One of the courses has 36 holes and they aerate each 18 about 3 or 4 weeks apart.  By the time the 2nd course is punched, the 1st course is perfectly playable.

So, I never deal with aerated greens ... unless its by accident. :)

They're punching the greens at the course I play in league on Monday. Instead of postponing the round, the guy who runs the league says we're playing the same day as they punch. Not me. I'm not scheduled, but I'm the first backup for our team. I plan on being sick that day. Id rather forfeit than play on freshly punched greens.

    • I have that club and absolutely love it!
    • Have a 19° (moved to 20.5°) Titleist 915H. I just love the club. Beautiful feel off the sweetspot, high launch, soft landing. Versatile. In the future, with less overall speed I will replace my 4 and 5 irons with another hybrid, something around 26°.
    • Broke the head of a Stealth Plus on a warm up. TaylorMade send me a new head but I decided to upgrade it to the new IQ10 LS and pay the difference. While I was waiting for the 8° head to arrive at the store I messed around with all the multi brand putts they had available. I instantly liked a black TaylorMade Spider, not the new one but very similar. The weight felt perfect. Big line in the middle for easy alignment. I was playing and old Zebra so the change in technology and feel was huge. Fast review of both clubs.. Driver QI10 LS. I always hit to ball up in the sky. I was playing the stealth at 7° with a 60g X low flight shaft and I was still hitting it pretty high. With the QI10 playing it at 6° now is almost hard for me to hit it high, with the same shaft the ball comes out lower and with less spin. so I'm really happy with the change. Putter Spider. I love it. It took me an afternoon to figure out how to grip it (it comes with a superStroke grip) but after that it all came into place. More stable on short putts and a good weight to swing smoothly on long putts and with added forgiveness over my old zebra.
    • I have a 2h but we don’t get along anymore. It’s a bit of an abusive relationship - she gives me just enough hope once in a while that things are going to be better and then it’s back to the same old shit. I went to a PING fitting recently with the intention to replace the hybrid with a 5w or something, thinking maybe I’ll be better with a fairway wood than a hybrid. But it turns out the best club I hit that fits in that slot in the bag is another hybrid so I ordered it.
    • Day 547, May 2, 2024 18 holes with @DrizZzY using my TruStick®. Hit a LOT of really good shots today.
