My Swing (CarlSpackler)

I've been Playing Golf for: 16 Years

My current handicap index or average score is: 12.9

My typical ball flight is: Draw

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Occasional pull


Videos: 4-20-14 Front and DTL. It's early in the season for me, so the club isn't going all the way back. Things are starting to loosen up. The subtitle to this video should be "Flippin Chicken". Oddly enough, the ball is going where I want though.

Some things I've been working on...

Flattening out my swing so that my left arm is more in line with my shoulder, not above my shoulder line. Hoping this will get rid of the over the top move.

Flip / Chicken Wing - I love chicken wings. Just want it out of my swing. I killed it in the past, but it makes a comeback every spring.

Love it!  That is some funny stuff.

In all seriousness though it really looks like you have more of a lateral move back than you do a hip turn, although your head somehow looks like it is staying steady while your whole body is going back and then through.

The main reason for the chicken wing is you don't get enough of your weight forward and most likely because of the lateral move back, so you end up flipping at it to make contact.

Take a look at the above and I think it should help get things started.

I'll check it out. I should also mention that a few years ago, I came down with Menieres Disease which is an inner ear issue that throws my balance off among other issues. I definitely have a lateral move in the downswing. Much of that is to keep me from falling over. I'll check out the post, but I don't know if that can be eliminated and stay on my feet.

I'm sorry to hear that.. Actually I am talking more about the lateral move in the "backswing" not in the downswing.. The lateral move in the downswing or shifting the weight forward after you get to the top of the backswing is actually a good thing.. Check out the below.

Also, I think a centered pivot on the backswing will actually help with your balance, as your body doesn't have to make compensations while you are going back and then thru, instead it will be more like turn, push weight forward and follow through..

First thing to do would be to turn the feet out at address. Will help the hips turn more and stay centered.

Thanks @mvmac . I watched that video last week and practiced with my feet turned out. I guess it didn't stick. :8) I'll give it a try when I'm out again.

It usually takes far more than a week to get to where a piece is a natural part of your set up, or swing. You can practice the feet thing at home, and most other moves. Good luck.

Thanks. I got adjusted at the chiro today and he benched me for a few days. Since the weather isn't cooperating this week, it could be a good time to set up to a bunch of balls in the living room and make it a habit.

I use to go to a chrio too, now I go to a physical therapist, for me, works much better. Re: things (pieces) to work on. I have been working on a couple for the better part of 6 months, it's not that I'm uncoordinated, it's just that old habits are hard to break, or my back will tighten up  a bit and I revert back to the bad things that prevent me from making a good swing, the problem is, my bad swing is what can cause my back problems..go figure..

Your moving your right shoulder into internal rotation at start of downswing ,which is causing to steep of a shaft , path going to left, causing chicken wing. I would give you a little right side lateral bend in transition and flatten that shaft a bit to swing little more right.

I do see what you mean about the neck tilt. I'll work on that with the feet thing in setup this week and hopefully get new vids up.

Mirror... hmmm... Perhaps I can plug my camera into the 50" if I can get my wife away from her shows for a while. Actually might not be a bad idea since I can set it up behind me and still face the screen to see what is going on.

I see what your are saying, but I'm not sure how to get there. Help.

For now just do the eyes down and feet flare at set-up and see what that does for you.
