The real differences in the Titleist golf balls

When I first started, I used the cheapest balls I could find (usually in onion sacks). Once I got a little better, I played Noodle's for about a year or so. After I got into the 90's, I started using $20 balls (Nike PD Soft, Callawat Hex Diablo, Srixon Soft Feel). Now I'm ready to get into the 80's and looking for a better ball.

Last weekend, I played my Nike PD Soft's for the front 9. On hole 10, I found 2 Pro V1's and 1 Pro V1x. I was so excited! I have never played with a $4 ball before haha. Guess what? They were amazing. Only lost one of those balls on the back 9 (Pro V1 on the 18th trying to make the green over a lake at 220 with a 3 hybrid. Hooked it. Tried it again with a Pinnacle Gold, made the fringe). Hit 6/7 fairways (3/6 went +275), 3 GIR and 17 putts and scored a 42. The "drop and stop" really did as advertised; I actually got a ton of backspin out of a bunker! I am officially hooked onto a Titleist ball.

My findings on those 9 holes: I felt as if the Pro V1x had a lower ball flight off of my clubs, but went straighter off the tee box. Not only did it seem to go straighter and a bit longer, but the green side spin was better than the Pro V1 for me. I did not care for the hard feel, however. The Pro V1 had an exceptional feel on contact and I found the ball flight to be much more favorable. The green side spin was good and I liked it putting better as well. I did have more action on my long irons and driver though and I did not care for that.

Now the real question: What is the difference between all of the models they offer? I know there was a thread on the difference between the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x, but I was meaning to compare those to their other options (NXT Tour, NXT Tour S, Velocity, DT SoLo). The reason I ask this is because it seems every one of their balls offer "comanding feel, outstanding distance, consistent flight, very soft feel, long lasting durability". Well, which is better for what? What have you experienced between these models? My swing speed is 107 avg with the driver, 8 iron goes 150. Driver goes 275+, 3 wood goes 250-275. Thanks

P.S. Don't just say things like "DT SoLo is a 2 piece ball where the Pro V1 is a 3 piece and the V1x is a 4 piece." Explain how that will differ in performance.

The ProV1 and ProV1x are the only Titleist balls with a urethane cover so they are probably going to be the softest feeling ball and they are going to spin the most. The NXT Tour is a 3 piece ball with an ionomer cover that is suppose to perform close to the ProV series but not as good. It's likely to feel harder around the green and not spin as much. The NXT Tour S is suppose to feel a bit softer than the NXT Tour; it's a two piece ball but has a lower compression to give it the softer feel. the DT SoLo is their 2 piece distance ball with low compression. The Velocity is also a distance ball.

From my understanding, Titleist feels like the best ball for nearly any golfer is the ProV1 or ProV1x; some of the other options will also fit their game at a lower price point if they are trying to save money, but from a strictly performance standpoint the company would recommend one of their premium balls.

Yes sir, I understand that last sentence, thanks. I was more or less looking for a cheaper option, so I was considering the NXT Tour. Which ball other than the V1/V1x would you prefer or recommend? I think I am going to give the NXT Tour a shot. I have found that although I prefer the feel of a 2 piece ball, a 3 piece performs better with my swing speed and I don't seem to get so much side spin from a 3 piece. Thank you for your feedback

You're welcome. It's actually an interesting read. When I got back into the game a few years ago I would only play the NXT Tour...I finally advanced on to urethane and now it's all I'll play in various flavors.

I don't know that I agree with that. I am still on his site talking about these things with he and his members. It's not my fault someone didn't point me in the direction of one his forums. I understand your point, but we post things on here all the time that aren't original to TST.

After doing some research, I am going to give the NXT Tour S a shot. I just bought 50 AAAA quality used balls for $35. Not bad considering you usually only get a dozen for that price. I will let y'all know how it is, but I can guarantee it is going to be better than the Nike PD Soft I play now! haha

I play with Srixon Trispeed Tours. 2 dozen for $45 . I just seem to like the ball. Yes I have played with ProVs. I just never noticed anything different enough for me for the price point. Not worth it.

I can't argue that. Hence why I really wanted to understand their other options. As I said above, I just ordered the NXT Tour S. I have heard those Srixon are good balls as well. I will have to give them a shot. I have 3 Q-Star's in my bag I plan to use this weekend.
