O.K...maybe not that uncommon was the wrong choice of words...Is it safe to say, there are more out there than we may think there is..?

Okay, if I see 20 typical golfers on the range and go out there 5 straight days for three hours each day, with the 20 golfers changing every hour, I might see one guy who can hit it 300 yards during those 5 days ... unless of course, a junior tournament is involved, and then you might add one or two.

It's not common at the golf club/range that I visit. Heck, 270 is not common. Too many guys use top of the line drivers meant for low caps to pros with too little loft, too stiff shafts, and have poor fundamentals.

As to the OP, heck I can't help you ... I am not qualified. Wish I was .... but noo...

What does this mean?

Exactly what he said.

Most high handicappers… hit it short.

Wow, I need a good facepalm gif for that one.

My first thought for some reason was that "hit it on the short side" could be a fancy term for hitting off the heel of the driver. I'm tired ok. OK!?

That guy is pretty rare. Most high handicappers hit it on the short side, poor mechanics equals less distance.
Exactly what he said. Most high handicappers… hit it short.
I'd even bet that most single digit players.....down to getting pretty close to scratch, will admit that they don't hit that many drives 300 yards, and probably average something well short of 280. The difference being that better players actually know how far they hit the ball, and they do so with some consistency. Two attributes not found in less skilled players, though they may not realize it.

I try to keep it simple, no hidden messages in my posts ;-)
