Selecting a custom shaft

Wondering if a custom shaft for my TM R1 driver would help improve my drives..  I'm 67 yrs, 245lb, 6', and have an 9 hcp.  My average drive is about 265 - 270.  I currently have an Aldila RIP Phenom 55g R flex shaft.  I have the head set on Neutral with a 9.5 loft.

I've never thought of changing shafts until recently, when 2 diff pro's (lessons) mentioned in passing that I have a pretty good swing, and perhaps a custom shaft could provide some improvement.  -  I dont' know what part of the ball flight they were talking about that would improve, and what I should look at to be making improvements..  I dont' know anything about "Kick points" or other aspects of shafts to know what I'd need.  What I "DO" know is that they run from $30 to a couple of hundred dollars...  I just don't know why.

How do I know if I need another shaft - If so, what would I look at that would make the biggest improvement .... etc.

Aldila RIP is a pretty good shaft already. If you don't know what the pros meant by improvement it's going to be tough for us to help. I'd go to a golf store or demo day and try to get some numbers on a launch monitor.

I agree with that. Get some numbers. Hard to give you any advice with out knowing what your launch conditions are now.

Take your current driver if you go to compare. However my experience is fitting carts for drivers usually don't offer much besides the most mainstream shafts at the big box stores. Don't have to spend much to get a decent shaft. I ended doing some experimenting on my own when I had extra money, just because it's fun.
