I'd be grateful for advice here. I've been trying to figure out why I suddenly can't hit the ball straight at all. Got so frustrated I decided to video my swing and now know the problem... For some reason I've started striking the ball with an open club face. Should I: A) work on rotating the club more or B) just take a stronger grip Any ideas on which is the best method to cure this? I want to choose whichever method is the 'correct way' to cure this problem. Thanks very much for any replies.

What does not straight mean? Push, pull, slice hook?  Post the video.

Only advice I can give is two things that I know have been taught to me.Rotate your right hand about 1 inch to the right meaning your hand will be lil more behind club or lil more under.Check alignment to make sure your stance isn't open or that your ball placement has moved back in your stance too much.

You've probably developed a habit change with your weight transfer and not getting to your left side

in sync with the swing.

If at impact, you have equal weight, or on your heels, the body is behind the ball and hands

are most likely in front of ball which leaves club face open through impact.

On your direct question I would say B but that could just trade off for a snap hook or pull/slice depending on your swing path. However, to me the more important questions are what is the ball flight of the miss? What is the ball flight when you hit it well? Do you know the ball flight laws? Are we talking driver, irons or both? Is the clubhead set up open?

I personally do not meet your criterion of low HC, but can endorse Club Rat's idea that many, if not most, of the ball striking problems of high HC players centers around the hips.  Dead hips, static lower body, etc.  Most of our (poor ball strikers) attention is on the hands, arms and shoulders because that is where we must start, the address and takeaway.  And we can see the hands so naturally our mental process goes there. .

We take the club away, rotate the upper body some, then swing, or move, the arms and club into the ball. But lower body ain't movin'.  Or ain't moving correctly.  That's what i'm working on.

I watch many guys hit balls on the range, on the course, at the chipping area and note to myself how very many begin the motion with the shoulders, then the hips move.  Wrong.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
