TST is at the 2014 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. The par-71 will measure 7,255 yards for the event.

Billy Horschel is set to make his first start since winning the 2014 FedEx Cup. He’s ranked No. 13 according to the Official World Golf Rankings, the highest ranked player in the field this week. Joining him is defending champion Webb Simpson (No. 33), who won last year’s event by six shots, and Jarrod Lyle — in the field on a sponsor’s exemption — who recently won a second-battle with Leukemia and monday qualified for the Frys.com Open, where he made the cut.

Check out the photos and swing videos from the Shriners Open at TPC Summerlin. More to come!

Very cool!  What is that pool all about?

I heard it's two things. They are going to have girls who promote a local casino in there watching golf. And/or spectators that show up wearing a bathing suit can hang out in the pool. Probably not at the same time as when the models are in the pool ;-)

Interesting. What is the rope drill?

Key #5, working on their start lines, making sure their ball starts between the two alignment sticks or on one side of the stick.

Never seen anyone do it with ropes. Makes sense though. Is there any advantage to having the longer lines of the ropes? Looks like they are using it to make a line between the monitor and the stick. I usually just kick a range ball out there in line with whatever my target is and try to start the ball on one side of it. That is about all my "precision" allows.

Just to be clear, this thread will also serve as the "Discussion Thread" for the Shriners. So feel free to talk about the tournament.

The course is in perfect shape and the weather is benign (like playing in a dome), scores are going to be low (as usual). Amazing what they can do in a short amount of time, I was told the course wasn't looking so hot last week.

Great pics Mike!

I have a tough time getting excited about these early season tournaments given the fields are so weak.  How do these early tournaments get weighted against the bigger ones in terms of FedEx points?

All PGA Tour events get the same amount of points. WGC, majors and Playoff events get more points

Honestly, in the early events, I root for "stories" more than I root for players. Webb Simpson winning one of these events, to me, is boring. He's won before, he'll win again, meh. If my favorite players aren't really in contention then I want to see something that makes me go "Oh, good for him." Tony Finau, Andrew Svoboda, Spencer Levin - all would make for pretty good stories.

Also, I can't get into these shoot out tournaments. I know they're professional golfers and they'll always make it look easy, but I want to see nerves tested. I want to see someone staring down a 10 foot putt and be worried their going to miss it. I love golf, so I'll be paying attention...but don't blame me if I have the football game on instead.

That's what I thought, I guess the top guys have the option to play if they want to.  With these fields guys like Jimmy Walker earn FedEx points and qualify for Ryder Cups against really weak fields.  Points should be awarded based on strength of field otherwise the lower tier players would be better off just picking the tournaments with the weakest fields to accumulate points and prize money.

I kinda like these early tournies. Gives us fans a chance to see players, that we might not see when all the big names are there.

Their nerves are still being tested, just in a different way. They know standing on that first tee that they need to shoot five, six, seven under par every round to be in contention. That's not "easy" on any course.

    • It's going to be very difficult for the 2026 Masters to match the 2025 edition for storyline. I honestly don't know that anyone else in the field could match the story of Rory finally winning after so many years and the blow ups over the years, not to mention the career slam being completed. No one this year that I can think of is remotely close to that kind of story. Combine that with the attempts at blow ups last year (Double on the 1st, 13, 18 on first try) and the stunningly good shots that he hit in the final round (7, 15, 17, 18 on second try).  Full gamut: https://www.masters.com/en_US/watch/2025-04-13/17445961638226475/every_single_shot_from_rory_mcilroys_final_round.html
    • Let's kick off the 2026 Masters talk with… a look back at 2025 (coming soon):
    • Wow, so Europe named Luke for a third term. Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald named 2027 European Ryder Cup Captain Who will the U.S. name? I hope not Tiger Woods.
    • I am playing Arrowhead for the first time and I am pumped.  What are some things that I need to make sure and appreciate, for those that have played it before and love it? It has been a pretty dry winter so I am expecting rough to be forgiving which is nice and it will be playing much easier than it does in the late summer (I am assuming based on other colorado courses).  What should I make sure to not miss?
