what are your weird quirks when playing?

I greatly prefer to find broken tees whenever I use an iron or hybrid off the tee, but if I'm hitting a 56* wedge or a 60* wedge I can't tee them up. I hit it bad every time, so I stopped trying and now just make a little raised mound by thumping the sole of the club into the ground to place the ball on for those two clubs.

One thing I have to do is set my bad directly to the right of my ball (except when teeing off). This is the one place where I never feel like it obstructs with my swing because I can see it and it's nowhere near where my club will go. It's also somewhat handy in that the bag and the brim on my hat work together to filter out just about every distraction that could occur in front of me.

I'm also sort of specific about what can go in my pockets while playing. In my right pocket I have a ball mark tool, a ball mark (this last year I used a mark I received at a prior tournament that was played at the same location as this year's state tournament, my little reminder of my goal), and between 2-4 tees. 1 tee feels like too few, and any more than 4 and my pocket is overloaded. The left pocket never has anything in it when I golf, but I don't mind if something is there (like my phone) on the range.

I suppose my only other "quirk" is I only clean my clubs before I hit a shot instead of after (until the end of the round). It's just because the only way that I'm certain I'm hitting a clean club is if I clean it during my pre-shot routine (which starts when I set my bag down and it's my turn to play). A little thing that does a lot to put my mind at ease.

I use headcovers on my hybrids, woods, driver.   Always, 100% of the time when the clubs are in the bag.     I too hate colored tees - leaves streaks on the bottom of woods that are so hard to get off ...

I don't know if this qualifies as a "weird quirk," but at this time of the year I put my preferred set of clubs in the basement and play my backup bag of clubs until April.

I am with you here!  Head cover comes off, hit my shot, wipe the club clean and head cover goes back on.  I do this very quickly so it doesn't slow down the pace of play.

You kind of have to do this if you're walking and carrying your bag. Is it common practice to just leave the headcovers off when riding in a cart? I never paid attention to this, but it would bug me to have my woods all rattling together.

In my experience, I"m the exception ... very few people I play with put their headcovers back on after every shot.     Everybody's different, my tools, guitars and golf clubs are all used ALOT, and still look like new - just don't like anything to look beat up ...

I grip the club with my right hand and rattle the watch on my left wrist as I address my tee shots and align my stance. I even do it when I'm not wearing a watch...

One that I forgot is a habit of pulling my glove tight on my thumb when adressing the ball. I have short thumbs according to Footjoy, so my glove is always long in that spot. A little tug on the collar of the glove above the thumb fixes that before each shot though.

I always place my ball on the tee so that I can't see any markings or writing. I get distracted if I don't see all white.

If it's an early morning scramble, I eat at home before going to the course. Burnt coffee and a greasy do-nut in the clubhouse 20 minutes before tee-off doesn't set well with me.

I feel unlucky with 14 clubs in the bag, so I almost always play with only 13. I usually take out the 3-wood.

It's funny that a lot of you talk about using broken tee's on p3's. Me and my buddies refer to them as "guppies" "You need a tee? Na I'll just use a guppie" Or when the first guy gets up on the tee box someone will say " are there any guppies up there" lol!!!

it's interesting about how much we all agree about using broken tees on par 3's. Maybe it comes from when we were kids and having enough tees was a perennial problem. (you knew that breaking the tee was nearly a given)

We never seemed to have problems with having extra balls in the bag, but tees were an entirely different story.

I also do this when putting.

This is getting harder with golf ball manufacturers putting lines on their balls.
