LKo defeats CCiganda and JGranada in 4 hole, the same hole, playoff.  So Ko wins the half million dollar tourney and the million dollar CME prize. MWie ties for  5th and SLewis ties 9th.  Teenage winnings, not too shabby.

Great win for Ko, but I was really impressed by Ciganda's power. She was killing that 3w. No WAY I'd let her play from the ladies' tees!

Great year for Lydia. She seems to be a truly nice person. I hope see can remain as delightful as she is now with what is to be expected of her in the years to come.

No kidding. The playoff was just the 18th over and over again (I hate that) and her tee shots were landing within a foot or two of her divots from the previous approach shot. Scary consistent.

Yup...What I find sorta weird is, Lydia is kind of a short hitter..no?  Yet she finds a way to win, or the longer hitters seem to miss shorter birdie putts.  I was really pulling for Michelle to win..

She definitely has a disadvantage on length. She was using driver on the 18th and was always behind the other players.  She is still an excellent player.

Ciganda choked big time, she had it, that putt will haunt her big time, she has to be pissed.

Yep, that was a bonafide choke on that putt, didn't even burn an edge, not even close.

Hopefully she can make light of it like this girl:

While Cignada choked I was really impressed with how Ko maintained her composure.  I don't know if it's because she's a kid and doesn't have the pressure on her to perform but she acted like she was just playing a regular round.  She was laughing, eating, drinking while Ciganda was in a knelt down fetal position trying to keep it together.  If Ko can keep this up, Lewis and Park will be fighting it out for 2nd and 3rd most weeks.

No, she was always in the middle during the playoff.

Granada was the shortest, Ciganda was longest, and Ciganda was hitting a 3W while Ko and Granada hit driver.

I think I heard a commentator say that Ciganda knocked that 3w 295 at one point during the tourney, can anyone confirm that? Seems unlikely although she really puts a hell of a move on the ball.

I heard that too but wasn't sure it was confirmed.  Her drives averaged 280 yards compared to 220 for Granada.

I watched the LPGA CME champ tournament live on TV. Lydia Ko really have a very consistent swing.

During the 4 playoff, the tee-off is spot on the fairway. 2nd shot on the green. Although 2 putted in all 4 playoff same hole, even if the 1st putt did not make it to the hole it always ended near give-me distance. Ciganda have longer drives in all 4 playoff, but only managed place ball on 2nd shot twice on the green in 4 playoff holes.

Consistency in Lydia Ko's performance made her a worthy winner.

Lydia was on the green all 4 times, but she was more conservative, playing to the center of the green each time, basically playing for par. I think Carlota Ciganda missed the green left that last time because she was going for the pin....again.

Carlota also missed a short put on 17 for birdie or she could have won outright at 11 under.  She had ripped her second shot on the par 5 (another monster 3 wood) to the fringe behind the green, but three putted from there for par.

Interesting contrast in styles, though. Reminds me a little of the HBSC playoff between Paula Creamer and Azahara Munoz. When Paula won that, I remember some questioned why Aza played it more conservative (laying up). Well this time the more conservative player prevailed.

Understatement of 2014 award nominee. :-)

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
