2 reasons. At the range, I have a few great friends, we joke around, have a few laughs, then complain about our swings..lol

On the course, I normally play with my Son, as I can't see past about 120 yds, so he's my eyes, for shots longer than that, plus we have a great time. We've always done stuff together since he was about 6 yrs old, when I taught him to surf, then it was racing bicycles, then motorcycles, then golf. He has kids of his own, we both encourage them to play.

Plus on course, I tend to forget all the crummy things in life, it's just cool being out there.

Whatever is happening in life goes away for 4 hours (hopefully not 5-6) once you tee up on the first hole.

Playing a game outdoors with beautiful scenery is a joy.  So is meeting new people with the same interest.

This.
Playing a game outdoors with beautiful scenery is a joy.  So is meeting new people with the same interest.
And this. Although I have met some people on rare occasions who made my rounds rather unpleasant, so I guess less of the latter. Golf itself and practicing is not therapeutic to me, but being outside and enjoying the scenery, the weather, escaping the trappings of life, etc., are.

Well, the physical rewards are pretty obvious. Exercise is always a good thing, and walking a few miles on a golf course, in the fresh air,  will keep one healthier than one who is a couch potato.

I can also mentally relax while out there. Just out doing something I like to do.  I either play to great score or I don't. Just me, and my tools against Ma Nature, and the golf course. No worries what so ever.

Meeting up with new, and/or  old friends is a social up lift. Playing with good, or poor players makes no difference to me. Anyone can provide entertainment for others, which, over all is how I look at the game of golf. Just healthy entertainment practicing/playing 10 -15 hours a week.
