Any advice anyone can give me is greatly appreciated. I have totally lost my swing. It's so bad, I don't even know what my natural swing is anymore. I have taken lessons in the past with not much success. Should have never taken lessons. Was much better just playing by natural feel. I'm an 80s low 90s golfer (or was). Was in Phoenix last week, played 3 rounds and never broke 100. Shot 112 on my last round and was lucky to shoot that. Did not make solid contact more than 5 times in 3 rounds. If I swing super slow I can make decent contact but get no distance. If I try to swing harder I just hit week fades with no distance. Seem to get way too "quick" . Don't mean to ramble on but I am at my wits end.

Ok.....I'll try and film it tomorrow....problem is I have a couple different swings. I can swing more compact/short - but it does not feel natural to me. Seem to get way too tense. I can also swing longer and looser which is more natural to me. Not sure which way to go. Have played ok with both swings. Should I film both?

I would film a series of swings of both types. Btw, I know how you feel, been there and done that several times. . .

Hey dude, right there with you. I'm playing tomorrow, first time since Aug. My swing went downhill last April, no idea wtf was happening. I was a 5/6 hcap and began shooting high 80s and 90s. Got so disgusted that I quit, thinking it was mostly in my head. So, gonna try again. Been to the range this week (huge blister at the base of my right fore finger); hit the ball pretty solidly. I'm jazzed again, feeling pretty confident. We'll see what happens. Sorry no advice, just commiserating with you. My tact was to lay off awhile and see if I could clear my head and get it back. Hopin for the best.

Lost mine a couple of times, I know how you feel, very frustrating. So, what I did was, go back to basic's. Went to the range, got in a good posture to start with, then made sure my grip was good, then double checked my address position. I then made 1/2 swings, i.e. where the shaft never goes past parallel to the ground, made sure the toe of the club was facing up on the back swing, and then on my follow through which was  the same as my back swing, parallel to the ground. Hitting shots at about 30 to 40% speed. As I made solid contact , I would SLOWLY increase the speed, never exceeding about 60-65%. Once I could hit 10 shots w/o a miss hit, I would increase my take away, until I could hit decent shots again. I have a tendency to get steep, and come over the top, so I made sure that my swing was on plane. You might consider trying this, helped me. But as above, posting a video, so the experts can see where you might need some help.

Do this and do not try to progress too fast.  If you had "it" before you'll get "it" again.  Good luck

Thanks......I did post my swing on the member swing forum if you want to check it out.

Well, picked the wrong day and course to play my 1st round in 5 months. Played a course I despise, really tough and I've always been psyched out by it. Slope is only 129 but I play much tougher courses better than this one. And, we had nice sustained 25-30 mph winds. So, I shot a smooth 98, only 3 pars but they were on 16, 17, and 18, all dead into the wind , I found my swing! I was crunching the ball again, with a draw, back to my old ways. Chipped and putted horribly which doesn't bother me, I'll find the short game again. Wow, what a great feeling to be hitting the ball well again. Playin tomorrow and Wed. Excited!
Glad you found your swing again!
Many thanks. Been a depressing year, 1st not being able to hit the ball, then quitting because of it. I've been surprised how much this has improved my general outlook on life. Tried to convince myself that I didn't miss it but now that I have it back, I realize that wasn't true.

Good for you! I've been trying to lose my swing for ever, still no luck, I might be stuck with it...all I can do is keep working on it and hope for it to get better.

Maybe I'm just looking at it all wrong.....losing my swing actually may be the best thing that could have happened!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
