Tiger is never going to be his old self and so many folks simply do not want to accept it.  I saw an article a week or so ago where the writer compared Tiger's collapse to Mike Tyson's.  Tyson really was not a good fighter after the Douglas loss (debatable if he was still good before that fight), but the boxing world wanted to believe the old Tyson would come back and he never did.  Every fight fans flocked to see him only to be disappointed time and time again as he aged, diminished skill set, and frankly no real desire or passion to be great again.  He would beat some easy opponents which kept folks entertained and hoping for more, but the last several years of his career were a disaster.

While I am not sure to what level Tiger will be able to return to comparing him to Tyson is poor at best. In Tyson's book he admits to using cocaine daily and partying instead of training. Unless, we we get a report from Medalist we can't be sure how hard Tiger is working but I don't think he is a coke head.

My following golf began well after Tiger's Butch or Haney periods, so I'm curious, what broke the Butch / Tiger relationship? Every news article references it but they don't actually explain the cause of the rift.

To my knowledge Butch has never commented on why the two split. Tiger has stated that he needed to go another direction because he could no longer snap his left knee it transition.

IMO both of them have big controlling personalities and they just could not make it work any longer...too many alpha's in the pack.

There are some people like Michael Breed who think Butch walks on water. What's even funnier are the people like Arron Oberholser who think Butch is the only person who can, "fix," Tiger.

I heard/read somewhere Butch told Tiger "you're swing is perfect; just maintain this forever." Tiger didn't like that; he wanted/needed to believe he could always get better. I don't know how true that is, but just adding to the discussion.

IMHO, Tiger seems to be suffering paralysis by analysis syndrome. Too much thinking during his swing. I too get into that mind set during early summer. That's why I get into a slump in summer months. Hard to change that even knowing the cause.

    • Day 128: 5/3/24 Spent 10 minutes chipping and putting at The Creek golf course after visiting a relative.  Greens are slow, and I putted quite well. Perhaps I should seek courses with much slower greens!
    • Not to take away from the OP's question but the Snell 3.0 is about all you could ask for in a ball. I'm not a paid spokesman and my opinion does not reflect on the owner of the site. Lexi Thompson could beat most people with a Top Flite, or a Nitro. Ben Griffin? He doesn't offer a lot of street cred so I'll pass. Now if Fat Perez or Heavy Ballesteros start using it then?????? 😀
    • Just read that Peter Oosterhuis passed away. He was the one and only celebrity I have asked for an autograph! In September 2007, I was in the Charlotte Airport awaiting a flight reading my October 2007 Golf Magazine. It was during the FedEx playoffs and Tiger had just won the previous tournament with the Tour Championship the next event. I watched the event listening to the dulcet tones of Peter Oosterhuis, among others. I opened the magazine, and started reading an article about Oosterhuis and the opening picture had him posing as James Bond in a movie’s opening sequence. I looked up from the article and he was sitting directly across from me!    I approached and showed him the article and asked if he would sign the photo. Mr. Oosterhuis asked “Are you keen on golf?” When I responded positively, we spoke for about 10 minutes discussing the fact that both Phil and Tiger had won FedEx events prior to the Tour Championship. He was very gracious and a wonderful storyteller. I was saddened by his battles with dementia and missed him on CBS’s telecasts.
    • Day 50. Hand path follow through and face control technique work. 🤯 in a good way.
    • I have been playing the Tour X for several years and find it to be a great ball. I buy them at Golf Galaxy and they often run sales. Was able you buy a box of 48 for $90 after applying a coupon from Dick’s Sporting Goods. I am a big fan!
