I have been going through a complete swing change through lessons.   1st few changes were easy b/c they were something I used to do before.  All I had to do was go back to the old ways before I picked up bad habits.   Flipping is another story.   A year ago, I noticed my shot having very high trajectory.  It probably got developed over time and got progressively worse until my swing video showed how bad it was.   After 3 - 4 weeks of drills, my hand is even with clubhead at impact.   That's at range practice when I am consciously trying to fix the flip with each practice swing.  During a round, I am still flipping (probably more than 50% of the time).   For those who had similar issue and fixed it, what was the most effective drill you did to fix it?

This is a common problem:

I would create a My Swing thread and post a video.

Usually flipping is caused by a key 1 and 2 issue. If your head moves you can flip to try to find the ball. If your weight isn't forward enough your CG is too far back and you will flip to find the ball.

Right off the bat, check your alignment and ball position. Sometimes the ball can creep back in the stance. To adjust you might end up flipping at the ball.

Here is a drill for flat left wrist at impact. I would set up the drill first and do a lot of slow motion to really get the movement and position down.

I tried a few drills: half swing drill, using a long club (made one myself), ....    Perhaps, I am not giving enough time for the drills to take effect and looking for a magic pill.

Lihu, I checked out other links on casting.  Thanks.   I will see what makes a best drill for me.

Looking at my video in slow mo, the most glaring thing is that my body is not shifting enough as shown in number of "video" instructions.

i struggle with this as well, it really does boil down to getting your weight forward whilst keeping the head steady.  this allows you to deliver the clubhead from the inside, with room to keep the hands ahead without having to flip at the ball to hit it.

For me the drill that helped fix the flip most was the pump drill and holding the lag longer, weight forward and steady head was not helping the flip much because I was still too "handsy".

Also I worked on dropping the hands first before firing the hips, to get the hands into a lower position before making the big move with the lower body, this is a Stacy Lewis tip that really helped me stop flipping and taking a divot after the ball.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
