@GolfLug Here is the area around the hotel.  There will be quite a few dinner choices that are very close to you.  I forgot to put Five Guys on the map but that is there as well.  I thought that whoever wanted to, could meet up Monday morning, either at Panera or we could head to a cafe close by or something like that.  From here Erin is just straight North up 83 for about 20 minutes or so.

Also Naga-Waukee is probably one of the best municipal courses in Wisconsin, and it is a very reasonable option for Sunday.  It is a traditional style course with some great views and some neat elevated tee shots.  It was designed by Larry Packard who did Copperhead at Innisbrook and also my club Watertown CC.  It would be a great two day golf trip for you I think.  Two very different and fun courses. The back nine at "Nag" has some great views.  Here is how close it is to you.   If there is any way that I can swing even nine holes with you I will do it.

This is a winning plan right here...

I feel stupid as hell.... Didn't realize you were talking tees. Didn't even cross my mind. Thought you were talking some Par 3 secondary course called 'Greens' at Erin. Ha ha ha.

But yes, I have no desire to play 7200 yards. Green tees limit. Not sure about even the combo. Often repeating scenario if we play blues: Hit an out of the shoes drive on a par 4, get to the ball and then ask the caddie if I can use my 'looong' iron to get to the green from there and he smugly replies: Not yet.

Haha, yeah.  I won't enjoy trying to hit my 7 wood into every par 4 green either.  My preference would be the Green tees as well.  We can also play from different sets tees if @Jakester23 and @99prblms are going to "Man Up". ;-) I did that at Whistling and it was no problem.  My dad played one tee box up from me.

This is a winning plan right here...

Sounds good V.

I would like to play the greens the blues are playable but why make it hard. I'm not very confident with long irons so hitting them into every green doesn't sound all that fun. I don't know if I'll even be able to make the walk so I should probably save distance anyway I can

I'll play whatever tees... im not a great golfer but I have pretty good distance. It helps when my 6 and 7 I irons are considered most people's long irons..lol... I played the blacks at the Irish course at Whistling... like I said... im there for the experience... doesn't matter to me!

If they have a blue/green combo that would probably be ideal. I am guessing it would be around 6900. No problem though for us to play from different boxes as well.

Sounds like you guys are going to have a great time! I wish I could play but closing on a new house on May 14th is eating up a ton of my reserve cash. If something like this is planned for the 2016 season count me in! So far this year I haven't even touched my clubs as we are preparing for the move.... might sneak out tomorrow to the driving range at least to shake the rust off.

@Jakester23 , @99prblms , considering Nate's injury I think even if he recovers there is a good chance he will not be 'Erin' ready by August. I am ok to postpone it to next year since it won't be the same without him.

I won't cancel my tickets until mid July probably to keep the door slightly open.

I'd be situated for the 2016 cycle if it happens.  Only 4 hours away.  I just saw this thread, if I'd seen it a couple weeks ago, I'd be planning the drive already.

Have fun.  Looks daunting.

Im ok with postponing it until 2016 to wait for Nate as well. It was kinda his plan to began with so I wouldn't want him to miss it. Its not like the course is going anywhere.

Just let me know and I will call and cancel this until next season.   Sorry to blow this thing up guys.  I feel horrible, but it is what it is I guess.  It really sucks.  I was very much looking forward to this.

All good bud. You can go ahead and cancel. Like, Jake said, she'll be waiting for us exactly where she is next year.

I've been looking forward to it since last October. Thanks for ruining it

Sorry to hear about your wrist Nate. Though I was looking forward to playing Erin Hills with you guys, I can also understand the postponement and agree with the reasoning behind it. Get well soon!

Thanks!  I just wanted to confirm with you and also with @GolfLug and @Jakester23 that I did go ahead and cancel our tee time for this outing.  I was really looking forward to playing here with you guys.  I will start up another thread for next year in the spring of 2016.  Have a great summer and year guys!

    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
