Sectional Qualifying tomorrow. Should be interesting, some big names playing. Surprised to see Luke Donald needs to go through qualifying.

Yesterday's winner, Lingmerth, is back out playing today just trying to qualify. No rest for the weary.

The new NCAA champion, Bryson Dechambeau of SMU, is in fine form, currently in the medalist position at the star-studded Columbus sectional. It looks like he'll be a force to be reckoned with before too long.

Pray tell, what is a 'made up golfer'?  Half the bolder names on that list i have never heard of either.   And i had never heard of Lingmerth before Sunday noon.

Golfers that are made-up, sir. Like Billy Dipshit.

something's not right about that - winning a tour event and not being good enough to be in the US Open and having to qualify......

re: Lingmerth - he's had some good tournaments over the last year - led The Players or was in the running in 2014, if I recall.

Excellent bolding and non-bolding. I think Sam Saubders is Arnold Palmer grandson. He got special invite one year that some resented to API. He kicked butt (home course maybe? I forget). Since then he's been solid. Earning his way up with solid performances. Other than that, don't know any non bolds either. Recognize all the bolds. Edit: mark Silvers of big break fame!!! Woohoo. Well done mark

I've heard of Lovemark, Putnam, Saunders, Dechambeau, McNeill, and Fritsch. I may not be able to identify them in a lineup, but I've seen their names on leaderboards. (I've even started McNeill in my fantasy league a few times when he was somehow part of the Class A pool, and no other players in that group had entered.)

Good to see Goosen make it. His 10-year exemption just ran out. I always felt that if you win multiple US Opens you should be exempt through at least 50. All the other majors if you win just once you're exempt for life.

15 year old Cole Hammer qualifies out of the Texas qualifier. First time someone younger than me has ever qualified for a major, I'm getting old :-D

2013, came in 2nd Players Championship to Tiger Woods.

Lingmerth's going to struggle at Chambers Bay. He's not a long hitter. He's one of the shortest hitters on Tour, which is why he has struggle contending a lot. Rose was outdriving him with a 3-wood to his Driver in the playoff. I think to contend at the Open this year, you need to at least be somewhat long. The only thing that may help Lingmerth is the fact the course is going to be so dry.

Well he didn't qualify, so he won't have to worry about it!

First time I've really looked at Chambers Bay and man, it seems like it's going to make the world's best look like mere mortals.

I like it! :-)

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
