I just came across this site looking for swing advice. I'm poor and can't afford lessons and such so I figured this seemed like a good place to beg for help. I'm from Blacksburg, VA and have been playing golf for a few years (mostly par 3s) but have actually made an effort to improve in the last year or so. Golf is the most fun I have ever had being terrible at something. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm hooked. Looking forward to some good conversations and learning lots here!

Well hello! You've come to the right place if you're hooked on golf! You can get some excellent advice here. If you can post a video of your swing on the "My Swing" thread it will help others help you. There are many talented golfers on TST. I know you said you're poor, but if you could find a way to get the book LOWEST SCORE WINS (LSW) I think you'd really enjoy it and gain some wonderful insight into this crazy game! I don't want to sound like a commercial, I just like to support products I truly believe in. Anyway, welcome to TST!

Not like a Bob Rotella type psychology. But it does give you a new insight on the game...specifically how to score your best round. Lays out a great plan to figure how to play YOUR best round. There's a reviews section and you can read about the book.

Well if there's any worthwhile golf book it's probably one that teaches you how to shoot a lower score. I'm gonna go read some reviews now.

Also, I've posted my swing video but am waiting for it to be approved. It's pretty ugly so I'm looking forward to getting some advice.

Welcome to this great site @WatchOutLeft

I think you'll enjoy it here. Lots of great free advice on offer and also lots of good discussion.

Can i point you on the direction of the 5SK (5 simple Keys) threads? you'll see this phrase a lot here and for good reason. If you need help on your swing then the 5SK video thread is ideal.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
