I have always subscribed to the idea that if it is too good to be true, then it probably is. I found a TM SLDR 460 head which looks to possibly be a tour head. But just got off the phone with TM and they no longer check serial numbers. It has a serial number. The ebay seller has been upfront saying that he got it from an outing. The crown of the club has a autograph from Carl Pettersson. I like him just as much as the next guy, but I would have the crown refinished to remove the ink.

Is there any other way to see if this is legit before I receive it? Thanks in advance

It's as good of a fake as I've seen if does turn out to be spurious. Usually the laser etching is a giveaway because it's not as good on the fakes or is flat out carved instead of laser etched, but this doesn't seem to have that. What about this is making your spider sense tingle besides you getting a good deal?

I agree if that is a fake that is a damn good one.

The only thing that gets me is that the seller won it in an outing. Not sure if the guys in an outing would buy a fake SLDR, then what forge the signing? That seems a bit out there to me. Unless the seller himself is lying and is trying to pass it off as something way more than it is.

My only concern is, on Taylormade's website there is no light grey normal SLDR. They only offer the SLDR-S as a light grey finish. There would be a "S" below the 460 on the bottom of the club. Maybe there was a limited time when Taylormade did offer that color for that club, I'm not 100% positive though.

With the SLDR-S there would be no adjustable hosel.

Yea the color scheme kinda shoots off a red flag for me.

That's a good point. I chalked up any color differences to the lighting, but you're right: it does look more grey / silver than white. And now that I look more closely at it, does the + sign above the serial number make sense? I don't see it in other photos online.

thank you to everyone that has responded, what got me concerned was the price.

i bought it for.......ready........with shipping 80.00

there is a SLDR that is not the S Model, But is a tour issue only. Tour heads do have a + sign on the hosel. Like this one.

tour only heads are going for upwards of $300.00 on ebay.

the other thing i have found was a video of Carl Pettersson and it shows his SLDR with the slider set exactly like this one.

here is a link

http://www.pgatour.com/equipmentreport/2014/05/07/equipment-photos-players-championship.html Per the link the silver crown SLDR is (or at least was a year ago) a tour-only version, which certainly would make sense in light of what else you've told us.

Yep.

And I'm not aware of any "tour issue" SLDR S drivers that were adjustable or SLDR drivers with the grey finish. Doesn't mean it's not possible, could have been very limited.

so assuming it is ok, any ideas on how to remove a sharpie from the crown without damaging the finish?

Why would you want to?  Sell that head for memorabilia purposes, use the proceeds to buy another SLDR club head and pocket the profits.

Have you tried to contact Carl to see of has signed a head like this, sure he'd let you know if someone was flogging fakes baring his signature

Eighty bucks?  Why cry so loud?  A up-market bottle of wine costs that much and lasts one hour.

Alcohol used to work well, acetone would do it probably. Takes something pretty harsh like brake cleaner to damage paint.

Doubt it would be worth it to make a fake THAT good.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
