Bryson Dechambeau Plays Same-Length Irons

Looks like Bryson signed with Cobra. He has two sets, one of the MB's and one of the CB's. I guess he will interchange them between tournaments?

One of the announcers during the Masters said that not only were they the same length but also that the head weights were all the same and that they are 17 degrees upright. I find that a but difficult to believe in that if they are all seven iron length and have the same lie angle then they would all be a different amount upright. Seventeen degrees seems way too much even for the longest clubs.

If I recall correctly, the lie angle of all of his irons was 73.5 degrees.  The stock lie angles of Cobra Forged CB and MB range from 60 (2 iron) to 64 (wedge), so you could say that his lie angles are all upright by a range of about 10 to14 degrees.

Not quite 17, but still very, very extreme.  But when you see a down-the-line view of his swing, you can see why - he's really close to the ball and his hands are high.

I just think it's funny that all of his clubs are stamped BAD, but those are his initials.  When you look at the folks who've won the NCAA and US Am titles in the same year (Nicklaus, Mickelson, Tiger, and Ryan Moore) he's in good company (both in terms of future greatness and, in Moore's case, goofy swings).  So clearly what he's doing works, and at an elite level.

Furyk's loopy corkscrew swing works for him, and Trevino's low pull-slice worked for him, but you wouldn't teach anyone to swing that way.  I think likewise on the irons.  It's not a question of whether "this works" or "this doesn't work," but rather "this works for BAD."
