I went to the golf store today to see my swing speed and try a couple things. I was surprised my speed was at 116 with the driver with a carry of 280 or so. I thought my speed would be closer to 110. But then the monster came out. This ping G30 ls tec stiff shaft 9* was crazy!!!! 120 average swing speed with a carry of up to 330yds!! I couldn't believe what i was seeing. But i did it multiple times with this thing. And i have proof! The "low numbers" on the right side were someone else's session.

I've been playing with the standard G30 driver and love it. The LSTec wouldn't really fit my game, but for those with higher swing speeds or those that need to reduce spin, it's a great choice.

Did you go back to your SLDR after hitting the G30? Did the speed go back down to 116?

I actually play a regular G30 right now, because I'm experimenting with drivers.  But comparing to a titleist 915 made the swing speed near 116.  I really don't like my SLDR, and I plan on getting rid of it.  I probably will buy the G30 LS TEC but I'm still experimenting what shaft I'll put on it.  Back to point, I think those turbulators on the G30 may actually help swing speed, I don't know.  Only with the G30 drivers did I have 118 or higher swing speeds.

Edit: Quite frankly, it could just be me swinging harder... But I don't think I could hit 120 with the titleist.

Edit2: Btw, I don't know how accurate that vertical launch is, because it shouldn't be that high.

I was actually super close to buying this driver last year, spent over an hour during the fitting trying different lofts, shafts, heads, etc. I finally settled on this particular head with the tour shaft in stiff flex. Found out it was going to take several weeks at minimum to get the club delivered and then tried the Bio Cell+. Within 15 minutes of adjustments I was getting better numbers out of it. Went online and got the driver for under $200. In hindsight I realize that I gave up forgiveness for a bit more length which may have been a bad idea but for 1/2 the price I don't think I made the wrong choice for my budget combined with my game.

Might just be a few thing, turbulators, shaft that fits you better and being more warmed up.

I've had mine about a month now, and am very happy with it. It actually doesn't go quite as far as the G15 I had prior, but the dispersion is a bit tighter (maybe due to the lower spin?), which is more important to me. Have the premium shaft on both, so I don't think that has anything to do with it (from what I understand they both have very similar characteristics). However you cut it, it's a great club so far.

No matter how many times I hit a Ping driver, I can't get over the god awful racket it makes or how gargantuan the head looks.  That said, if a driver works for you, awesome! Play it.

I tried about 4 different new drivers over the past month (815 alpha, 815 alpha DBD, R15) and although the DBD was pretty good, I never fell in love it.  Finally tried a 915 D3 9.5* and it's easily the best driver (longest, best dispersion) I've ever hit.  To be fair, my club head speed may have gone up, as I've been hitting about 108-110 recently, but whatevs...I love it.

Full disclosure: didn't like the sound of the 915 either.  Stuffed it with yarn and it's perfect now.  Not sure if that would work as well with the G30.

Here's a quick question maybe someone could answer. How much difference would you say there is between the g25 and the g30? While I get some fantastic drives with my BioCell+ I'm finding that it's just a bit too unforgiving for my current abilities. I'd like to pick up something that's more forgiving but I'm not really in the market for anything new because of price and with buying an older generation club it is next to impossible to get a chance to get fitted for one. I know what I was fitted for with the g30 last year loft and shaft wise so I think I'd have a pretty good idea of what to get in the g25.

Between the G30 LS Tec and the G25? Or the G30 and the G25?

With the latter, not a huge difference. G30 has slightly higher launch, less spin and turbulators.

I own the G25 with TFC 189 stiff and the Ping G30 SFT TOUR 69 stiff. Obviously different shafts but I really don't prefer one over the other. I actually average longer with the G25 (9.5).

Thanks, I didn't figure there would be a huge difference in performance between the two but the price difference is going to be pretty large. Basically I just want something that'll give added forgiveness without much loss in distance.

I wouldn't believe those numbers if they seem out of the norm for you. I was over at DSG the other day and the monitor was reading 130-135 and the guy working there said it was the highest he'd seen since working there but I knew I simply couldn't swing that fast. I'm high teens at the very most so we're talking a 15-20 mph difference which I wouldn't consider accurate at all. I will be taking the LS Tech for test drive sometime soon though.

I made a note under Tristan's G30 review: The standard G30 worked best for me;.the LSTec shots all came off low - I don't have the swing speed.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
