When I first saw the thread, I mistook the title for the first line of a country-western song.

Congrats on your accomplishment, and the solid pictures.

@kpaulhus, in your experience what makes it such a tough layout?

The length, and the rough. The greens are pretty easy and not super super fast. The rough is long, the tee to green is long in distance, and the greenside bunkering can be as much as 15 ft deep.

Play it in the summer...lol.

I played it June 26th last year. Just need to make sure you get that early tee time or it could get hot quick.

@kpaulhus, have you played the other well known tough public course, Torrey Pines South.  If so, I assume you played from the back tees and I'm curious how you compare the two experiences.

My experience at Torrey South (from the white tees) is it can be anywhere from tough to extremely tough depending on how deep the have the rough cut.

Yeah. Its a hard walk if you're still out there mid day. By 13-14 you're feeling it pretty good.

You're right about what makes the black tough. The greens there are pretty easy to putt. 3rd green has some weird breaks in it. But most of the length on that course is between 9-16, so If you can take advantage of 1-8 and 18 with some pars and a couple birdies you can squeeze a pretty decent round out of there.

I have not played in SoCal yet. I would like to make a trip over there next year.
