By no means do I think Democrats are faultless for the current political climate, but I'm not ready to say that both sides are equally to blame. It took months for Loretta Lynch to get a confirmation vote in the Senate, despite Republicans having no substantive objection to her nomination for Attorney General, and despite the man she was tapped to replace being maybe the only person in America the GOP hates even more than Obama. The same Republican Congress tried to defund Homeland Security, just because they could; they'd give the department a blank check when Bush was in office, and they'd raise hell about the Democrats hating America if they ever tried the same stunt. I don't think there's been a moment in the last five years where Republicans at the Capitol have acted in good faith; quite frankly, I believe this would be a most fitting anthem for the party during the Obama administration.

I reiterate from an earlier posting, "To lay the blame on one side or the other simply shows the level of polarization we are experiencing."  You have just proved my point.

Once the nation realizes that by working together and not blaming the other side, is the best way to solve the problems that face out nation, then, and only then will we rise to the task of making our nation whole.

Right.   I've seen many polarizations happen over the years and most of them have led to nation fragmented into smaller ones, wars, and genocide.   I worry about where US is going on current divided path.   If it keeps getting worse, States may break away, and there may even be a civil war (in some distance future?).   Compromise is not a bad thing when two parties just can't see eye to eye.  We all do that in our daily lives.   Why can't politicians?    Back to OT ... DT does not strike me as someone who will compromise to bring people together in the middle.   Ego maniacs and narcissists are in it for themselves and we can't have them lead US (not that he has any chance to win the presidency).

I agree. Trump tells people things that they want to hear. "I'll build a fence and make Mexico pay for it." - “I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created, I tell you that,” - "Trade with China and all countries, we’re being taken advantage of because we’re being led by fools."  Trump's rhetoric is grandiose, his ego is bigger.

Most importantly, his checkbook is not as bottomless as he wants us to think. He is very rich, that's for sure, but he isn't so rich that he doesn't have to make a point of how rich he is. The Koch brothers are worth $100 billion; they bankroll political campaigns how other men their age buy old baseball cards. They're dead serious about their libertarian-conservative political beliefs, while Trump is just an opportunist. They could bankrupt him on the campaign trail if they want to, and it would be a drop in the bucket for them. I usually hate the infusion of big money into the political system, but I'd make an exception to see the Donald forced to put his money where his mouth is.

This is by no means a defense of Donald Trump, but there should be clarity on his bankruptcies. The man knows how to work the system to protect his own wealth, it seems. He never filed for personal bankruptcy, from what I can gather.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2011/04/29/fourth-times-a-charm-how-donald-trump-made-bankruptcy-work-for-him/

First things first: Donald Trump has filed for corporate bankruptcy four times, in 1991, 1992, 2004 and 2009. All of these bankruptcies were connected to over-leveraged casino and hotel properties in Atlantic City, all of which are now operated under the banner of Trump Entertainment Resorts.

He has never filed for personal bankruptcy — an important distinction when considering his ability to emerge relatively unscathed, at least financially.

https://www.legalzoom.com/articles/how-does-trump-repeatedly-file-for-bankruptcy-and-still-stay-on-top

First, Trump doesn't get personally involved. He knows how to protect his personal finances. In both instances, Trump's corporations have filed for bankruptcy; Trump personally has not. Hence, when his casino fell into about a billion dollars in debt, the corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Trump only made the decision to do so once he had spoken to his banks and bondholders. But, by filing, he gave his business the opportunity to regroup and reduce his business debt. It didn't hurt however that it would also reduce his personal debt, as Trump is likely the one every creditor would look to if the Taj Mahal couldn't pay up. So, in fact, Trump avoided potential lawsuits from credits and he may have also avoided personal bankruptcy by keeping his own bank account insulated.

That's even worse.  He can take care of himself but not his corporation.   I doubt it if he will take care of US as if it is his own.   Bottom line, I don't think US needs a someone like DT to be its president.

Any Republican road map to the presidency in 2016 involves winning over Hispanic voters, and Trump couldn't make it two weeks through this sham campaign without completely alienating them. He's done.

lol, way too early. He won't get the nod but he's shaking it up, which is good cuz the GOP has become far too stale.

I really don't think he has a chance, but if by some quirk he does get elected, I believe he would have the same problem Ross Perot would have had if he had been elected.  Both are leaders of business and used to getting things their way.  I could see them going to Congress and saying "We need to do X, Y, and Z."  Congress would then say back, "Sorry, that's not on our agenda today."

That's the issue right there.

It is not and should not be the presidents missions to dictate what needs to be done by congress.

His primary concern is to figure out ways to make laws, programs and such work. He has executive powers to enforce the laws set down by congress. Really the president has a small list of powers and responsibilities. The only time he should be promoting a direction for the country is during the state of the union address and except under extraordinary occasions.

See Section 3 under Article II,

he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper;

The founding fathers wanted the president as far away from the legislative process as possible. He is to rarely voice his concern and only interfere with congress as little as possible.

Hey, running for election on the agenda that the president will not get involved in congress's affairs will not get him elected. Sad state we are in when the president can't get elected to just do the job he's authorized to do.

I agree, Trump will be heavy handed. I fear he will be horrible at foreign affairs. I can see him doing weekly press conferences to show boat. It would be horrible. He's just a narcissistic clown who likes to hear himself talk. He probably records his own voice so he can hear himself saying how great he is.

I suspect the Donald is only in until September. After that, he must file reports, etc.

All hat, no cattle when it comes to running for office for the Donald.

I mean, why would he run for an office in which his powers are limited and for which he can and probably would be impeached? :-$

It was entertaining for 0.5 minutes and I am already sick of it.   A few of my family members have narcissistic personality disorder and I can tell DT is displaying the exact symptoms  Of course, people with NPD will deny they are anything but that.

CNN is airing interview with DT today.  I hope media stop covering DT.  All it does is feeding his ego even more, giving him free ad time, etc., IMO.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
