Myrtle Beach Course Recommendations

I usually play my weekly round on Monday mornings. So if you are looking for a guy or 2 to join you for that Monday round at Indigo Creek or Indian Wells, I'm in. I would be happy to use my discount card to book the round, the only stipulation is I have a 48 hour booking window. How many guys are interested in playing Monday?

It is just me on Monday so I would be happy to play either course at what ever time would work for you.

Sounds good. I usually try to tee-off between 8-9am depending on what's available when I book. Either course is fine with me. Indian Wells is probably the nicer of the 2, but has water on 16 of 18 holes. Indigo Creek is more cut through the pines. I can wait until 48 hours out and book a tee-time through my discount system and then give you the info if that's good with you?

I was unable to get to Caledonia - we were not able to leave when we wanted to - I did get to play MB National West - it was OK. I liked the layout - pace was very slow - greens were not consistent at all...

I used to love to play Heather Glen.   However I played early last year and was shocked on how bad it was.   It was absolutely terrible.   Has anyone played it lately?    By the way they used to have a website mbga.com   that was run by a bunch of golf enthusiasts .   They had reviews that seemed to be pretty truthful.   That site is now bought out by a commercial entity and don't think they are that truthful on their reviews.

Here are my reviews of the 3 courses that I played while I was there.

Indian Wells was a lot of fun.  Of the 3 courses it very well could have been the most "fun" course that I played while I visited.  It was in great shape and represents an excellent value.  The cart paths were pretty beat up, and when we played the greens were recently plugged and sanded making slow putts inaccurate at times (to be fair, I don't know if it robbed any strokes, it was just an impression that I had)

Blackmoor was the 2nd course that we played.  It was short target golf with a lot of dog legs.  It didn't require a long club out of the bag, but you were rewarded for accuracy off the tee-box.  My playing partner that I played with enjoyed the course as well.  The fairways were very soft and the greens were a little hard but still receptive.  I would recommend it as another excellent value (I paid $49 booking it directly on their website)

The last course that we played was a true treat.  Caledonia was simply amazing and lives up to the hype that others have posted about on this site.  Immediately after entering the long tree & flower lined driveway you see the beauty and appreciate the sheer effort that goes into maintaining it.  The pro-shop while small has all of the neccesities.  If I had one complaint it would be that they provide free range balls but the range is off-site at the sister course True Blue.  That being said, they do have a very nice chipping and putting area that is right next to the starters shack so you can work on pitching, chipping, and putting all the way until it is your turn to tee off.  For somebody who typically plays municipal courses in and around Chicago, a golf course this nice is treat.  The fairways were soft as a result even well hit drives were leaving a giant ball mark on the green and only rolling out 2-3 paces on average.  The sand was a little dense at times and there was plenty of it, but the greens were receptive and rolled very true.  In terms of difficulty, I felt this was the most difficult course I played during my visit even though it was rated as easier than blackmoor.

A special thanks to MyrtleBeachGolf for the recommendations.  I had the chance to play once with him on Monday and he is a great golfer and great company.

Great write up. Glad you enjoyed the courses you got to play. The reviews seem very accurate and fair. It is a shame Caledonia doesn't have an on-site driving range. I usually stop in a True Blue first to warm up, before I head over to Caledonia to check in for my round. Once again, thanks for inviting me to play along on Monday. I enjoyed it. If you ever get the opportunity to play with @clearwaterms , don't hesitate.
