I'm 14 - have a handicap of 17 and have been playing for almost 2 years - any point in me applying for a sponsorship or am I wasting my time? Honesty would be preferred to false hope, however if you know any golf companies that would like to sponsor a desperate kid a recomondation would be appreciated

One thing I think sponsors are not looking for are desperate 17 HC kids..

I play on the UK rookie tour - I was thinking this could be a way to expand the awareness of the sponsors products.

My son is a 16-yr old high school golfer. He shoots scores in the 80's.

He heard some buddies talking about a TaylorMade sponsorship and asked me if he could apply. I told him, "go for it" as long as it's free. I expected TaylorMade to decline.

To my surprise TaylorMade said yes. The details are simply this- my son can buy any TaylorMade and Adidas products for a 40% discount. That's pretty good. We ordered an R-15 Driver, R-15 Fairway, R-15 Hybrid, and Tour-Preferred balls, and all 40% off.

This is really a smart marketing move by TM.  Get people using their products young and establish a loyalty to the brand in the out years as they get older.

That's brilliant. Could you tell me how he applied as I am very interested!

He went to the TaylorMade website. Clicked on "Contact Us". And filled out the contact form (selected "promotions" for subject). In the text box he just wrote that he was seeking a junior sponsorship and provided information about himself and his golf game.

After some back and forth emails he received a 40% discount on all TaylorMade products, and Adidas too, with a maximum purchase amount of $2,500 for the year.

Good luck to you.

    • That's your right hand?
    • Hit some hard push draws last evening which surprised me a bit as have been hitting without much curve last month or so. Went to the range for a few minutes realized that right hand grip allowed the butt to climb up a bit higher in the palm. It seems this 'activates' a hand-elbow-arm structure that is more inclined to generate a grip twisting moment (like a screw driver). Anyway reset the grip by cradeling it at the bottom of my ring finger per first pic. The curve vanished instantaneously. Bottom pic example of what I WAS doing (bad). Top pic is what I need to be.
