Recommend you turn both feet out a little.

And hit a lot of balls with a tee in your right arm pit, maybe even in both arms. Backswing is going to feel crazy short and "wide". Wide because a shorter backswing with the trail elbow in front of the shirt seam will have the hands further away from your head, left arm won't collapse against your chest. Would like to see it stop here

Instead of here.

Tried turning the feet out this weekend and shortening my back swing. Well I probably shouldn't of shorten my swing without some range time because it threw my timing way off and I hit snap hooks all day. However kicking my feet out really helped with my short irons, as when I finally got within range to use the shorter clubs I was flagging down pins.

I went to the range after my round practiced keeping my head still and shortening my back swing. I was still hitting hooks until I stood up taller then I was previously. Once I did this, high powerful draws starting happening. I wonder why that happened? Anyway the big take away from seeing my swing on video is that I have so many moving parts that when I am on I can time it pretty well but when I am off it leads to crazy inconsistency.

I think, just a guess, that when you are more bent over you swing more around your body in a flatter arch which will promote a pull/pull hook. When you stand more upright it allows the arch to be less flat and helps reduce the tendency to pull/pull hook.

I started an earlier thread about a week ago on shortening my back swing. I have been working on it for a week. It's not perfect and there are other little things that I could critique but its shorter then its ever been. Below is my video let me know what you think?

Hi @Mugs050,

We have a tradition here of discussing specific swings inside of "My Swing" threads. For general discussion about swings, threads are created, of course. But it seems you want us to discuss your swing. A "My Swing" thread is the right place for that. Create a thread for you swing here: https://thesandtrap.com/forums/forum/13-member-swings/?do=add

Good luck!

Wow this shot was hit well and far. I would say I am an above average distance player. I can hit my 7 iron 165-175 and my 5 wood which I have another video of that I didn't post yet about 250-270 off the deck. But a major fault I noticed in these videos is I am scooping the ball are not hitting with a lot of lag. Is this just me? How can I hit the ball as far as I do without producing sufficient lag?

How far do you hit say, a 7 iron?

How far do you hit a 7 iron with a shortened backswing?

How far do you hit a 7 iron with a normal backswing?

IIRC he mentioned that it doesn't make a difference they all go about the same 170 yard average carry?

    • Going to a Friendsgiving tomorrow and I am bringing a no-bake cheesecake. I make the crust too big, but I think it turned out good. The filling is really good.
    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
