Heading out in a few minutes for 9 holes with the new irons.  I'll report back on the results later.  Just practice swinging last night in the yard felt really good.

Back now for my first 9 holes, and I am pumped!  Not so much for score, although this will definitely reflect in better scores along the way, but because I'm gaining a solid 2½ clubs in length over my AP-2 irons, and I can dependably hit all the way to a 4I, whereas I was struggling even with the 6I before.  I was so lost that I had been reduced to hitting my 7I only 120 yards (125 with my best swing  ), while now I just hit a 7I approach shot 155 yards uphill (with a slight tailwind, but barely enough to counter the hill, if that).

I hit the 4I several times and every time was a quality shot, the farthest was about 215 yards, average around 205.  Considering that for the last 10 years I didn't even carry a 4I, that's a pretty good increase.  It's clear that my senior citizen swing was no longer suited to the clubs I was using.

The club is the TaylorMade AeroBurner iron, Re-Ax graphite, "R" Flex, fitted 1/2" longer and 1 degree upright.  I bought 4 iron through GW.  These are definitely nice irons, so if you're shopping around give them a try.  Not saying that everyone will achieve my results, they are worth looking at.  They cost $87 per club, fitted and custom ordered through Golfsmith.

Great! I would be nice if you wrote a review in the Equipment section.

Yep swing speed is a major factor with the Aeroburner but also aerodynamic stability. The raised crown section helps provide less drag and the hosel fin is supposed to keep the club head more stable. I dont know whether the fin will catch on with other club makers, i mean, the fatshafts in my WS Di9's are ok but they died a death after the DI11's

No, there's no "standard" between club makers on what the specific [STATIC] loft of each iron is, but - the AeroBurners seem to be 2* - 3* stronger than many other iron sets ... especially sets a few years older.....

But longer is better (that's what SHE said .. ha ha ha) as long as your accuracy is at least -- or better? -- than before!!!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
